BFN 9 days after Transfer

Evening, we are desperately trying to cling on to any hope that our first cycle of IVF may prove to be fruitful. We are 9 days post embryo transfer and although I keep reading everywhere about the 2 week wait etc, our clinic gave me tomorrow’s date (10 days) as the date to test if we have succeeded or not. Curiosity got the better of me and I literally couldn’t wait, so today I have tested using a run of the mill clear blue test which came back negative. Are we still in the game? Or at 9 days post transfer should we be getting a positive at this stage… it’s torture as you read about the levels of HGC etc not being detectable early on etc etc any info or experience in this would be greatly appreciated! Xx

It’s a tough one!

My personal experience as that I received a positive at 5dpt

But I’ve read cases of later positives. I can’t remember one as late as 9 days, but there must be a reason your clinic waits 10 days.

Good luck.

Hard to say. Sorry that’s not very clear. It might be the hcG. It might not be. Are you getting a pregnancy blood test?

Smithy88 · 19/06/2021 23:06

They have given me two strip type tests from the clinic, but I used one of my older clear blue ones which gave the negative. There’s no mention of any blood ones from the clinic, I might try and insist on one!

Have you tried with a pink FRER? A lot of people say they're the best for early detection.

ivfgottwins · 20/06/2021 03:29

Sorry OP Unfortunately a BFP would have shown up by now as technically you are 14DPO when tests are over 90% accurate x

Tarsette · 20/06/2021 04:43

Yes i unfortunately have to agree…by 9 days post transfer, it should have shown, even on a Clearblue test. Sorry about that…

Gardenlady543 · 20/06/2021 09:26

I'm in the exact same position as you @Smithy88 9dp5dt BFN on a FRER, there are those stories on the internet of people who test negative right up until their OTD, but I think realistically it is very unlikely that a positive will appear at this point. This is my third transfer, I've had so many investigations and had everything thrown at me for this cycle but as usual there's just that one line present on the test. I hope you're ok Thanks

Smithy88 · 20/06/2021 15:32

Thanks for your advice etc… kind of accepted now that this time isn’t our time. just out of interest lots of clinics I’ve read say not to test before the full 14 days have passed since the transfer, is the 14 days not the benchmark? Also we have 8 frozen ones ready to go, how soon can we get back on the horse avectry again?

something else…Are there any more investigations you can do? In the meantime, take the time to grieve this cycle and take care of yourself.

@Smithy88 when they say 14 days, they actually mean 14 days after ovulation, so 9 days post 5 day transfer.

Tarsette · 20/06/2021 15:53

@Gardenlady543 oops lost half my message. I meant to say I’m really sorry, it’s really not fair and I know how you feel (I’ve now had 4 unsuccessful transfers even though everything should have been fine on paper).

Gardenlady543 · 20/06/2021 16:10

Sending hugs @Tarsette , I'm on such a down day today. Going to contact my clinic tomorrow. I am going to try and push to go straight into a repeat ERA and EMMA as my microflora was so bad on my EMMA and the company recommended it should be checked again but my specialist wanted to try a transfer.

ivfgottwins · 20/06/2021 19:05

Every clinic seems to have a different official test day - mine was 9dp5dt or equivalent of 14 DPO - 99% of pregnancy tests are accurate from this day if not 2 days before

I think clinics have a later one to avoid BFPs which are then labelled a "chemical" as most chemicals are over with a day or so when period would be due if not before (12-16DPO)

Depends on your protocol but I did non medicated FETs so transferred 6 weeks after a failed round

GreyGoose1980 · 20/06/2021 19:18

Hi OP
I had a negative test at 10 days post five day transfer and went on to test positive at 11 days (my clinics official test day) however sadly lost that pregnancy at just under 6 weeks. Not sure if my example gives you hope or not or if there’s a link between early BFP and viability. Blood tests showed that my HSG rose normally initial though. I never test early now x

ivfgottwins · 20/06/2021 19:21

@GreyGoose1980

I've seen it go both ways - early BFP with high hcg can also be an indicator of blighted ovum or chromosome issues, low hcg to start with even if doubling also has higher chance of chromosome issues - I read a study which said there hcg needed to be minimum 100 on 14DPO or 9dp5dt for the best chance of having a successful pregnancy
