IVF - What are your experiences of a day 3 fresh transfer?

What are your experiences of a day 3 fresh transfer?
The clinic called yesterday morning to say that we had 2 embryos that looked good (both 8 cells).
We also have another embryo (5 cells) which they said they'll wait until Thursday to see if this one develops.
They said we could do a day 3 transfer with one of the 8 cell embryos which was yesterday or wait until day 5 to see if they make it to blast.

After weighing up the options, we opted to have 1 transferred yesterday at day 3.
I just wanted to see who has had success with a day 3 transfer?

Thank you in advance

@LetMeIn321 I am pregnant with a day 3, grade 1 8 cell. They told me that exactly 8 cells on day 3 had the highest chance. It was my my only embryo so there was no benefit in waiting until day 5 for me. Fingers crossed for you

@LetMeIn321 it's not the same situation exactly but I transferred a day 5 embryo that wasn't a blast.
So in my eyes it may have been the growth of a day 3? I had another 2-3 in the running which they kept an eye on but weren't good enough for freezing in the end ( still don't understand why as they did make it to blast at day 6)
So im currently in my wait and OTD is 11th!

For me I'm not feeling hopeful just coz the clinic were very doom and gloom

The clinic sounded positive so hopefully as pp have said, it could work!

When is otd ? X

@MabelG Oh really? That's good to know. I didn't want to wait until day 5 but then was worried that I'd made the wrong decision. That's great to hear you're pregnant with a day 3 8 cell embryo. Thank you, yes fingers crossed 🤞🏻 x

@strawberrysummer19 It's awful that the clinic were doom and gloom but you never really know what's going to happen.
We have had a call from the clinic just before to say our other 2 embryos are looking like 'early blasts' but they'll let us know for definite tomorrow. (Today is day 5)..

It could possibly end up being the same situation as yours as it will be day 6 tomorrow. It doesn't make sense that they didn't freeze yours as it was only an extra day and they did actually make it to blast..!

Test day is the 18th. They've said for us to go in for a blood test.

Aww I really hope that you get good news on the 11th. Good luck! 🌸

@LetMeIn321 yes we were taken to a room and felt like we were given really bad news. As if there wasn't really any point kind of thing. Kept saying it was 'unexpected' and they were sorry etc and they were fine yesterday (day 4) But then gave us the option to transfer ?so it was very bizarre

All I keep thinks that maybe it's caught up and done well inside rather than in the lab ! Wishful thinking I know

So yes very confusing that they didn't freeze the blastocysts on day 6
Something I will definitely ask when we have our next consultation when we find out the result as I was so shocked on the phone x

LetMeIn321 · 09/06/2021 20:51

@strawberrysummer19 gosh how awful. Then responding like that is bound to make you feel worried or nervous. You're right that sometimes they develop better in the uterus. I was reading about that yesterday.

Good idea to ask them at your next consultation because it's quite confusing really. Our clinic have said that if our embryos are blasts tomorrow (day 6) that they'll freeze them. So I'm going to confirm that with them tomorrow just in case.

Meeee my daughter was a day 3 transfer 8 cells on the morning by the time we arrived for transfer it was 9 cells :) good luck when is OTD ? Do you have bloods to confirm x

LetMeIn321 · 09/06/2021 22:57

@shazzz1xx oh marvellous!
That's so good to know!

Yes, blood test is on the 18th so hopefully it's good news..!
Ours was 1 embryo (7 cells but then was 8 when we arrived). The other was 8 cells. And our third was 6 cells. One of the 8 cells was transferred and the other two are 'early blasts' so they're confirming with us tomorrow (day 6) if they've made it to full blast! x
