Low AMH but high follicle count

Trying to understand what this means about prospects of IVF. I'm 36 (fast approaching 37) and have an AMH of 5.2 which I was told was low. But had a follicle count of 22 which I was told was high. Have had some follow up AMH tests and waiting for results. Have 1 child conceived naturally, but dealing with secondary infertility - looking at IVF options privately as we don't qualify for NHS treatment.

Any advice?

I think it's hard to say until you do a cycle. I have good AMH and AFC and many of my follicles develop but don't contain an egg at collection, so I get 3-5 eggs each cycle. Thankfully, I got pregnant on my third cycle (4th transfer) and we are doing IVF again in hope of a sibling. I would encourage you to go as soon as you can as if you need to do a few cycles to get success, then they can take a while to work through. Good luck!

Hi @WeeWelshWoman I think I’ve read somewhere that endometriosis can have an affect on AMH, could that be a possibility for you?

In terms of IVF I believe the AMH tells the doctors how you’re likely to respond to the drugs and the AFC is an indication of how many eggs you may get. So as far as I’m aware (but I could be totally wrong here!) in your case you may need a slightly higher dose of drugs but should get a pretty good number of eggs.

The best thing to do would be to have a consultation and see what the Dr says/recommends and go from there.

Hope that helps.

Oh actually I’ve just remembered that there are two ways to measure AMH too, which unit did they use?

They used pmol/l. And yes, suspected entometriosis.

Thank you both!

Just an update. Had some follow-up bloods day 1-3 cycle. AMH is improved (7.2) and FSH is borderline (11).
