Second round ivf - success stories

I’ve just started down regulation for my second ICSI cycle. On my first cycle, despite an AFC of 18, I only had 5 eggs retrieved and only two fertilised properly. Both were bad quality and were transferred on day 3. Unsurprisingly it was a BFN.

I’m feeling very anxious about this second cycle incase the outcome is the same. My meds are being increased to 300iu of Gonal f plus menopur and I’m taking a different trigger which I’m hoping will help.

Looking for some positive second round stories...

@CurlyJ21 just came across your post. I hope the cycle is going well so far? I had a few cycles in the end and currently 32 weeks pregnant. If it helps reassure you, mine went like this:

• 1st IVF cycle cancelled as poor response to stimms
• 2nd IVF cycle got 5 eggs, none fertilised
• 3rd cycle tried ICSI - 9 eggs, 3 fertilised, but only 2 embryos at day 3 and both poor quality. Transferred both. BFN
• 4th cycle ICSI 7 eggs, 6 fertilised, 4 good quality blastocysts. Transferred 1, BFN
• FET - BFP

Just remember it can be a bit of an art and each time they try they find out more about how your body reacts and can adjust the approach. I really thought it would never happen for me but it did. Try to stay positive!. Wishing you lots of luck x

Thanks so much for your message. It gave me a lot of encouragement! I’ve just finished my second cycle and the outcome was much better. Retrieved 15 eggs, 13 mature, 11 fertilised (icsi) and found out yesterday that we’ve got 5 blastocysts (various grades). I developed mild OHSS so was converted to a freeze all cycle so they are now all on ice.

Huge congratulations on your pregnancy. Sounds like you’ve had a long IVF journey but it will be worth it when the bubba arrives! Xx

@CurlyJ21 that’s great news - it’s amazing how different one cycle can be to the next. For my FET I found I was much more relaxed and had to take fewer drugs. Not sure if that made the difference but it could well have done.
