Is there any reason why an IVF cycle would be cancelled?

Hello,
I'm currently undergoing mild IVF treatment. I'm having scans every 48 hours to see how the eggs are coming along. Although I have 10 follicles, there are only 2 or 3 eggs that look like they're maturing. The consultant said we have 2 options - to cancel the cycle (which he said he doesn't want to do) or carry on and hope to get 3 eggs. I didn't ask him at the time why cancelling would be a choice because I was trying to process everything. Is there any reason why cancelling the cycle would be an option?

Hi @LetMeIn321. Sorry to hear things aren’t progressing as the Consultant would have hoped. I guess the consultant would cancel the cycle if they were pretty sure it wouldn’t be successful. To save you going through with collection and I guess wasting a cycle. What day are you on? Mine was cancelled after 15 days of stims - I had a high number of eggs and good sizes but my bloods showed my oestrogen levels were dropping so they just thought it wouldn’t work and didn’t want to put me through egg collection for nothing. It also meant that it didn’t count as a full cycle so saved money too. They then changed my protocol. I was annoyed at the time and wanted to give it a go but they wouldn’t. I guess they knew best but was hard to swallow after injecting for 15 days and paying out on all the drugs - however the change in protocol worked. It’s tough I guess when they aren’t telling you to cancel and just saying it’s an option - for me it was easier having no choice I guess. Regardless, goodluck.

@AutumnHoping
Gosh that sounds so stressful. What an awful experience. I'm sorry to hear you went through that.

To begin with I had 10 but 7 just aren't really changing in size. So it does look like there will be 2 or 3. He said he doesn't want to cancel as they could be good quality eggs.

I'm almost 35 now and have been doing this for 4 years so I really want it to work. I'll be having another scan in a couple of days so will see if anything has improved.

Oh well that’s good and you stuff have time for the m to improve further. It’s good that they don’t want to cancel as it shows they do think you can still be successful - as they say it only takes one ! Fingers crossed they keep growing and it works out for you
