I have had 5 early misscarriges between 5-6 weeks , over few years , iv had all the NHS tests done which have all been good ! Had a scan last week and they said my uterus is arcuate with a septum ! So not normal shape . Now sending me for 3D scan for better view ! Could this really be my cause for all my misscarriges ? Wow ! If it is I am hoping to get a surgery to remove it ! So many years or heartbreak and no explanation , they maybe finally found the reason ! The only reason they double checked my uterus with a scan is because they have reffered me to IVF and want to make sure my uterus is in okay condition ! Any advice or positivity ? Thank you.

@Sadgirl28 I am sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I have this and it depends on how big the septum is. Mine is too small to worry about. Hopefully the scan will give you some answers

Hey I have had 3 miscarriages and the septum was found after my first one. I was told I can’t have surgery, as it’s too small. The hospital told me some people with septum’s are offered IVF instead. I find it confusing they would offer that before surgery; but I guess it’s different in different areas/hospitals. I have my next appointment soon, so going to discuss it with them then

@MsK89 heyyy ! Yes I will be having a scan next week to see how big the septum is and what is going on in there ! They have referred me to ivf as well and I will be starting in few months ! But last week they did a scan and noticed the septum so before ivf they need to make sure it won’t affect ivf so hopefully they will remove it once they have the right answers next week on 3D scan SmileFlowers the reason they reffered me for ivf was because of recurrent misscarriges not because I had a septum , the only found this out last week that I have one so hopefully I will get it sorted and hopefully this was the cause for my losses which they now have found out ! And also I agree that it’s stupid that they won’t remove it for you but would offer ivf instead ? Because maybe in the future you want to get pregnanct naturally but then you know you’ll have the septum and probably misscarry again ! So I would rather have it removed and try naturally again ...

@MsK89 @Sadgirl28 in my case I was told that the potential scarring from any surgery could be more problematic than the (very small) septum itself so I think they have to weigh up the risk with the size of the septum/whether it is worth the surgery. So do ask questions. (I am now pregnant following IVF and no issues with the septum)

I have a prominent midline septum. This was only discovered when I had a tube unblocked. I'd already had a dd- she was breech and I convinced it's because she could get past the ridge to turn back. I've been trying for dc2 for 3 1/2 years (with one natural early Mc and four ivf failures) and I do think it could be a factor. No one has ever recommended removing it.
