We should start our first ivf cycle in July and I'm just wondering if I should be concerned about the hormones sending me barmy 😅

How have you found them?

I only did mild short protocol or natural modified IVF - I found the progesterone used to make me irrationally angry 😡 - the whole process is very stressful emotionally anyway so not sure how much was down to the medication and how much was just to the process itself

Hi @2021babyhope. I’ve had two cycles and other than being a little bit more teary I didn’t really feel any different emotionally to how I’d feel with a regular bout of PMS. I was expecting to feel very emotional with my second attempt as my medication was far stronger and I moved onto three injections a night with a fairly high dose of Gonal-F but actually I felt better than first time round as I knew what to expect. My side effects were more physical than emotional each time but even then weren’t anything that particularly troubled me.

I definitely prepared for the worst but was pleasantly surprised how normal I felt. Emotions definitely ran high during the two week window waiting to test but I think that’s simply down to the nature of what you’re waiting for rather than anything inherent in the medication.

All the best with it!

I had a rather unusual reaction - went incessantly happy. like honestly couldn't bring me down, dancing around the living happy.

Had the same reaction when i started on birth control.

apparently it's unusual but not unheard of. just the reaction of your brain to oestrogen

I was very worried about side effects too as I had started suffering from anxiety but apart from headaches (which I had all the time already due to anxiety!) I didn't really have anything noticeable. Perhaps a bit more bloating than usual and ovulation type pains but nothing unmanageable. Was pleasantly surprised but my clinic did say that most people don't suffer too badly..
