Low amh / 3 lead follicles - need some hope!

I'm doing my first round of IVF, this is my one and only nhs round. I have low amh (5) so was warned they weren't expecting much from me. I have had 4 naturally concieved miscarriages and am following an immune protocol but worried about my low numbers.

I've been on stims since Thursday and had my first scan today. I have 3 decent sized follicles: 2x12mm, 1x10mm plus 5 smaller ones all about 5mm. The nurse seemed happy but thinks that the smaller ones won't come to anything. Follow up is Wednesday and looking at egg collection sometime between Friday and Monday.

I'm on another thread and everyone has loads of follicles / eggs, so struggling not to compare. Due to my low numbers, we've already discussed a day 3 transfer, but I'm worried we won't even get that far.

Please share any positive stories. X

@Luan82 that must have been awful! So scary.
Best of luck for tomorrow @VenusStarr Hang on in there ❤️

Luan82 · 03/06/2021 08:35

@39andabit 😘
@VenusStarr- thinking of you today ❤️ x

VenusStarr · 03/06/2021 09:12

Thank you @Luan82 tests are marginally darker this morning. Luckily dh is off today, so we're off out for lunch 🙂 I'm not expecting a call til later afternoon / early evening, but I'll let you know xx

Good morning everyone. @VenusStarr waiting is awful why wouldn't they call earlier... Fingers crossed for good news. X

39andabit · 03/06/2021 10:36

@VenusStarr I agree with @jolly86 that’s awful you have to wait until later. Keeping everything crossed for you 🤞
Going out for lunch seems like a great idea. Enjoy 😊

39andabit · 03/06/2021 10:37

@jolly86 hope you’re doing ok. It’s test day tomorrow isn’t it? The endless waiting is torture!

VenusStarr · 03/06/2021 18:21

Hi everyone @39andabit @jolly86 @Luan82 @Scirocco @MGee123 so I'm still in limbo, my hcg is now 14.9, so nearly tripled since Monday (second test was Wednesday - 51 hours between them?) I'm continuing progesterone and back on Monday for more bloods. They again mentioned ectopic, so mindful of that. Still not sure what to think really.

Hope you're feeling OK @jolly86 x

jolly86 · 03/06/2021 18:33

@VenusStarr bad that it is again leaving you in limbo, but it’s good that there is still some hope. I thought ectopic should give super high HCG levels? Keeping everything crossed for you. In any case, I am sure you will get your baby with one of your 3 embryos X

@39andabit
Well, I have to admit I tested early and I have a positive result with first response test. I can’t believe it. Also very scared as my only pregnancy lasted 5.5 weeks.

VenusStarr · 03/06/2021 18:36

Congratulations @jolly86 brilliant news!

@jolly86 omg!!! Amazing - understand the tentative feelings though but it's still a positive !!! ❤️🌈🙏🏼x

Luan82 · 03/06/2021 19:53

@VenusStarr with my bloods they kept rising but not at the rate they should - barely doubling after three days, there is a chance (I know it's small) but there's still a chance it's a slow growing embryo - and most importantly it did implant (irrespective of where) so the quality is there too which is amazing news - it's not good being left in limbo but rest assured in my experience they will scan you when the numbers rise enough to see the sack - mine got to just under 2000 before they decided to medicate to stop growth, till then they will be following expectant management protocol - have you had any strange pains in your side at all? xxx

VenusStarr · 03/06/2021 20:06

Thanks @Luan82 we're preparing for the worst but there is a tiny glimmer of hope, like you say the embryo was good quality, maybe he's just a bit lazy! 😂 (convinced it's a boy).
I had a cyst at EC and had some twinges before transfer and on and off since. Tuesday evening I had quite strong cramps all across my lower pelvis, not in one area, but nothing since. I've had no bleeding today either.

Did you have methotrexate? I'm sorry that happened xx

With my hcg, have I worked it out right that it should be at least 60 on Monday? X

OP posts:
39andabit · 03/06/2021 20:18

@VenusStarr oh that’s frustrating and stressful but I guess a glimmer of hope is good!! Fingers tightly crossed for Monday - will you get the results the same day. I think 60 sounds right. 🤞

@jolly86 oh wow such great news!! I know exactly how you feel. I’m normally a rational type but my paranoia is off the scale. I’m obsessed with googling missed miscarriage stats and just can’t chill out but I know I should be grateful and excited. Hoping the scan will be a turning point.
Do you phone the clinic tomorrow and get a scan at 7 weeks too? Did you say they don’t do a blood test?

Luan82 · 03/06/2021 20:41

@VenusStarr yes good news you're not getting localised cramps at one side - I think 60 sounds about right too- yes it was mexotrethate tbh it really wasn't that bad I was expecting the side effects to be much worse x

jolly86 · 03/06/2021 20:49

@VenusStarr @Luan82 @39andabit thank you ❤️🙏🏼@VenusStarr I heard AA embryos are slightly more likely to be boys. 😂

TheDutchess3 · 03/06/2021 21:56

Congratulations @jolly86!!!

Scirocco · 03/06/2021 23:18

Congratulations @jolly86!

I caved this evening and tested early (5.5dp5dt) with the only non-digital test in the house. I'd decided not to, but I was certain I was out after some pre-period-type cramping this evening and in a sort of self-destructive mentality. Weirdly, I think I can see a very faint line. Tried to take a photo but it didn't show up as well on camera. So I'm going to try to not give up just yet - it might be nothing but I'll take any bit of hope I can get. Maybe I'm losing the plot, I don't know...

jolly86 · 04/06/2021 08:41

thank you @TheDutchess3 @Scirocco [heart]
@Scirocco that sounds very promising but I think wait a few days before repeating it.
@39andabit no I don't get beta done, I will email my clinic to arrange a 7 week scan. I wonder if I should test again in a week maybe? Do you keep testing or have you stopped? I know it is going to be very stressful tilll then, but grateful to be able to get here.

39andabit · 04/06/2021 08:54

@Scirocco ah great news to wake up to! I agree maybe leave it until Saturday if you can stand the waiting! Exciting though.

@jolly86 my official day was Weds but the clinic test was so faint I freaked out! Tested again Friday and although it was a bit better I was still anxious so did another Monday - better! I’ve held off all week but will probably do another in the next few days as I’m still paranoid. I haven’t had any bleeding and I still feel nauseous so hoping that’s a good sign. 🤞🤞 I think it’s reassurance but it’s hard not to become obsessed- I was Googling FRER tests at 15dpo etc... and comparing and it just made me more anxious! Why do we do this to ourselves!!?

jolly86 · 04/06/2021 08:57

@39andabit but at what point home pregnancy tests become invalid if there is such a thing?

39andabit · 04/06/2021 09:21

I don’t think they become invalid but as they measure such a low level of HCG they’re probably only useful in the first couple of weeks. As mine were faint I just needed to see it getting darker and I think it could only get a tiny bit darker. Not sure how quickly HCG would decline if something went wrong though. I guess it’s not very helpful but might make you feel better in the first couple of weeks!

MGee123 · 04/06/2021 12:56

Congrats @39andabit and @jolly86! And 🤞🤞🤞 @Scirocco - hope you have a clearer result in a few days.

@VenusStarr im so sorry, you're really going through the mill with this. Everything crossed your next blood test shows progress - yes I think above 60 sounds about right too based on the doubling every 48 hours thing.

I heard slower growing embryos are more likely to be girls, and that that is the reason statistically more boys are conceived via IVF as they tend to be quicker and therefore the preferred embryos for transfer! Who knows if it's true but ours was a v slow grower and is a girl (or so we've been told!) so my n=1 study suggests it might be 😂

Scirocco · 04/06/2021 14:05

Looking back at the photo from last night - starting to doubt myself so was wondering if I could ask your opinions? The test control line is really dark.

Low amh / 3 lead follicles - need some hope!
MGee123 · 04/06/2021 14:44

That looks like a line to me, and I'm often pretty sceptical when other people insist they can see one! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

jolly86 · 04/06/2021 14:53

@Scirocco yesss! That's pretty clear for day 5.
