Hi all,

So here’s the story -

I have one daughter who was conceived three years ago (she’s 2 now) on clomid 50mg. I didn’t know I had gotten pregnant as was told my day 21 blood results were too low for ovulation but somehow got pregnant and was 12 weeks when I found out.

Trying for number two and so far:
Month 1: 50mg clomid, 21 day progesterone was less than 1 so no ovulation

Month 2: told to go up to 100mg clomid and day 21 result was 77 so definite ovulation. They said not to worry about a blood test for month three as once clomid works it works and that’s it but I am paying for treatment and wanted to be sure so asked for one.

Month 3: 100mg and just had my result (had to go day 20 due to bank holiday weekend) and got a result of less than 1. The consultant was really confused that it hadn’t worked when it did last month.

But.... my abdomen is so sore! If my daughter sits on my lap it hurts, it’s similar to the pain I had before ovulation last month but this time it’s lasted all week. I just don’t see how I’m not ovulating with these pains.... could I be ovulating but just late?

Hi OP

I've had bad experiences personally of Clomid as I've over stimulated twice but when I'm on it my follicles get massive and I ovulate quite late. I always wonder if it's more they burst because everything's so crammed in there. Can you doctor re do the 21 day bloods in a few days time to see if you've ovulated a bit later or better still scan you?

@Crazydoglady123 thank you so much for your response!

Do you get or did you get pain with it? If nothing is pushing on my tummy it's just like a mild discomfort sort of bruised feeling. If my daughter jumps on me or sits down on my
Lap too hard it's a pain enough to make me Yelp.

I was thinking I may call them on Monday (or Tuesday if they aren't open due to the bank holiday) and see about either a blood test redo or a scan... the pain was at its worst today and has felt like it could be easing off slightly this evening which maybe makes me think I've popped an egg or two out.... but honestly who knows! Just seems strange to have this pain if it's not ovulation.

@Crazydoglady123 just to add to all my questions, you may not know the answer to this but if you get crazy big follicles and ovulate late, can pregnancy still occur?

@Rosalind22 the first time I ended in having pain around cd14 DTD and by CD18 the pain got worse. My consultant said he couldn't bring me in for a scan so I booked a private one (costs about £80-90 and worth every penny) and I had 5 ruptured ovarian cysts caused from the Clomid. I was sooo guarded over my abdomen, it was so sore! The second time, last cycle actually I ended up with lots of follicles but 7 dominant ones which ended up growing each between 30mm and 50mm so my abdomen just feels cramped inside and achy. I'm on an IVF cycle atm and at the end of my stims and it feels really similar to how I feel on the Clomid. When I have lots of follicles or too big of follicles (be it Clomid or ivf related) I find it uncomfortable sitting down for too or in certain positions. Also I love to sleep on my side but find that uncomfortable. Clomid is such a powerful medication I strongly believe doctors/consultants shouldn't prescribe it without scanning before predicted ovulation. If you are able to get a scan, they will be able to tell you if you've ovulated already too.

@Rosalind22 I can't say I know the answer. My first cycle I potentially released 5 eggs as the haemorrhagic cysts were secondary to follicular cysts and all the doctors and nurses were worried about a multiple pregnancy (could have had quintuplets!) but I never got pregnant on that cycle. My last cycle I was told to abstain so we never tried but mine didn't rupture until about CD19 and like I say, biggest was around 50mm so I don't know if they are over mature at that stage or not. Private clinics that offer Clomid use it much more responsibly. They scan/monitor throughout and when the follicles are ready you have a trigger injection to prompt ovulation

It was a big waste of time for me, it never worked and gave me ovarian cysts. I got no monitoring for it so not much information was gained either -it was usual bargain basement NHS approach to it.
