Unable to analyse semen sample?!

Surprisingly, I've googled this and gotten absolutely nothing back! My OH had a call from our practice nurse (we were expecting semen sample results) but she said he needed to have the test repeated as the results said 'the seminal fluid was outside the range of analysis'. I wasnt with OH or I'd have asked all the questions 🤣. Is this laboratory code for something like 'we accidentally dropped the sample and the top came off'? Or is it genuinely dire?

He immediately rang the hospital and they dont have an appointment for 8 weeks(!!) We waited 8 weeks for this initial appointment, and then one week for the results, so will have waited 18 weeks by the time we get the results from the second appointment... at this stage we're cosidering taking the £100 hit for a private analysis just to feel like our process is moving along :/

Any advice is very welcome :) x

Hiya! Sorry to hear this, that Is SOOO frustrating I would be gutted. I do think you could have hit the nail on the head with them possibly losing the sample or potentially ruining it, but did your OH produce a good sample because I've seen a few times that if it's less than 1ml they can't get any results from it?? He may not remember but see if he can that may make sense.. with the pressure and stuff he may not have produced a large sample. Not sure but just a thought! Best of luck to you, and if you can afford the private appointment I would go for it. They may look after your sample better too 😂 xx

Thanks for replying @babypleasenow :) funnily enough 'how much did you do' was my second question behind 'what were the adult materials like' 🤣 he said the materials were laminated and very 70s, and that it wasnt as much as usual, but that hes never considered what is 'usual' before 😂

He described the pot, and how much went in and it seemed a reasonable amount to us, after some hilarious discussion where I had to tell him it doesnt really go off like a fountain, and got the measuring spoons out to show him how much 1-2 teaspoons was

Honestly, the discussions this process makes you have 😂 x
