Hey! Waited what seems forever these results and doctor was useless. Didn't really explain them at all, does anyone have much experience with them and able to give a brief overview of what they are saying?

Thanks in advance xxx

The three things to generally look at is: numbers, motility and morphology.

Normal count is over 15m per ml (you have double that)
Motility normal is over 40% and you're quite above that
Normal morphology is over 4% whereas yours is only 1%

Morphology is the number of normal looking sperm. Lots of sperm are abnormal but its hard for an abnormal sperm to fertilise an egg so low morphology can make it hard to conceive.

depending on how long you've been trying and where you are i'd probably try some supplements for a few months to try and improve morphology and keep the balls cool too.

If these have already been explored then ICSI is likely the best bet as the sperm would struggle to fertilise the eggs themselves

Thank you so much @Bells3032 for this information. I'm so grateful you replied.

Ahhh ok so not so good news then. We've been trying just over a year, and we can be ref to fertility clinic now we have these results.

Thank you, we will try some supplements and he's always had scorching hot baths and I've been saying for ages about that but looks as if I could have been right which is annoying! Thanks again for your time we really appreciate it x

Hi @babypleasenow

My partner had morphology issues.. We had ICSI with no problems and now have a 4 year old and an 18 month old! So don't worry too much x

babypleasenow · 28/04/2021 18:13

Hey @firefly37. Thanks for your reassurance! If you don't mind, could I ask what happened with your icsi eg. How long it took to get it, what's involved , private or not? Just so I have an idea if it gets suggested and so I can reassure DP xx

@babypleasenow
ICSI wasnt a choice we were given... It was the only way so it was never even discussed. We were referred for IVF mainly based on partners morphology as was not going to happen on our own. Ours was NHS funded... Referred to clinic in January 2016 and was pregnant by June! xx

firefly37 · 28/04/2021 18:28

Our second fresh cycle in the Czech Repub (self funded) was again the same... They saw my partners results and it was automatically ICSI again xx

Just popping in for additional experience
Out of all our tests the only thing we have had is 1% morphology but because the rest of the aspects were well above average they said this counter acted the low morphology and so it wasn't an issue.
We were offered to go forward with IVF and not ICSI and were put down as unexplained.

I have just had FET and got a positive at 6dp5dt and still positive now, so I do wonder if morphology was our issue and maybe the normal sperm wasn't getting a chance to swim up to the egg but now they were closer it worked? We got a 4AA embryo transferred also so everything so far has been fine.
But yeah, no ICSI for us

babypleasenow · 28/04/2021 19:21

@firefly37 oh wow! That's amazing and so reassuring! I'm so happy for you. Hopefully that will be a similar story for us once we have our clinic appointment.. I'm just not sure how things will go with the pandemic and waiting lists etc. But certainly great to hear.

@willithappen thank you for replying! That's interesting they said that to you but the poster before you was told low morphology meant they couldn't conceive without help. I wonder what our docs will say 🤔 so you were offered IVF based on your unexplained infertility as opposed to the low morphology being the issue? And also huge congratulations! Fantastic news xx

@babypleasenow yeah I was concerned about it too and thought they didn't take it seriously but figured when it came to fertilisation they would see this and then decide icsi but it ended up that it worked out.
Yeah, we were given it as 'unexplained'
I have quite short and light periods also, although they have always said my lining looks fine on scans. So part of me wonders if the pessaries and progynova I'm on are helping this be a BFP or what it is. It's a strange situation!

firefly37 · 28/04/2021 19:38

@babypleasenow
We also had the issue of me having a low AMH and our age (we were both over 35) so they basically said taking all into account it would be a miracle to conceive naturally! We were also told my partners sperm had small heads and therefore couldn't get into the egg!... I guess it's just all so individual. I'm flying to Czech in June for a FET and there would appear to be no issues with the pandemic... So hopefully you can get going ASAP xx

firefly37 · 28/04/2021 20:05

I've just checked my partners results... Volume was fine, progressive 53% but only 0.5% normal morphology and was diagnosed teratozoospermia x

Laura230q · 02/08/2021 15:25

Hey, sorry to jump on the post. I'm new here... We are in a similar position. My partners sperm analysis came back saying teratozoospermia morphological normal spematozoa below the lower reference limit. Count is 66.8, motility is 8% ... notes say round cells present (1 million per ml or above) ... total is 2%. I have PCOS but have had all tests come back OK and showing I am ovulating and have been discharged. I have put him on wellman tablets for 2 months. Just looking for success stories and advice really. We have been TTC for 13 months now. He has a re test next month 🤞 just feeling very down with it all at the moment xx
