Has anyone combined Letrozole and Menopur for IVF?

I'm hopefully starting another round of IVF soon. In my previous cycle, I was put on very high dose Menopur due to my age (39) but still one ovary didn't respond very well so I only got a few eggs (luckily they did fertilise and were transferred - double fresh, plus a FET but still no BFP Sad

I've also used Letrozole during my unsucessful IUI's and seemed to respond as least as well to that in terms of potential eggs/follicle numbers. I've read it's possible to combine both Letrozole and Menopur for IVF (possibly at a lower dose), has anyone here done that or heard about it?

Thanks for your help Flowers

Hello IamnotwhouthinkIam,

I'm afraid I can't give any advice but am about to start a protocol of Menopur 75iu and Letrozolex 2 D. I have low AMH so hoping for a few good quality eggs.

How did your cycle go?

Delectable · 14/07/2021 21:00

I had a cycle in May where I was on clomid with 150iu Menopur.

@IamnotwhouthinkIam Similar to you, I had Letrozole on IUI and Menapur on IVF and didn't have a great response to Menapur though seemed to respond fine to Letrozole (though repeated BFNs on 4 IUIs). Would be curious to hear answers to this

Hi everybody - in the end my clinic said adding Letrozole to the Menopur was unlikely to make any difference. So for my next cycle they suggested what I think is called a "flare" protocol. It was still a short protocol with the maximum dose of Menopur again but this time we added daily Buserelin injections too. They also give me a triple trigger this time too.

I only got the same small number of eggs in the end but both ovaries responded this time and the eggs were apparently much better quality.

I'm now 5 weeks pregnant! Obviously I'm very shocked after so many previous failed attempts but incredibly happy - whilst also trying not to get my hopes up too much yet (as I haven't had a scan yet and I'm also at higher risk of a loss).

Good luck with your cycles too ladies Flowers

That's awesome @IamnotwhouthinkIam I've never heard of triple trigger. What's the burselin for?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/07/2021 23:44

@Delectable - I'd not heard of it before either (it was 2x 5000 Gonasi - the same as last time plus a 250 Ovitrelle this time too). I don't have a scientific background but I was told that at the initial lower dose the Buserelin would boost the effects of the Menopur, then we upped the dose to stop me from ovulating (instead of using more typical Cetrotide).
