Egg collection tomorrow. HELP

Hi,
I've my first egg collection tomorrow and feeling quite nervous!
Scan on Monday showed 4 follicles over 16mm and another 3 that will hopefully catch up. AMH is 27. Was expecting more follicles to be honest so feeling very nervous and apprehensive about it all.
Any advice?
Anything I can do to make sure tomorrow goes smoothly?

Thank you x

Hi lovely,

It sounds like things are going well with your stims and you can get the ideal number of eggs they like per retrieval.

I was losing my shit at my first egg collection, so whatever you can do to try and stay calm then do that.

Once you have your number of eggs and embryos then it will be a big rollercoaster of emotions finding out how many fertilise and drop off etc. Just be very prepared to be feeling great one minute, devastated the next.

The most important thing is to trust your clinic and the process. You are strong and will get through it and have a great chance of having a take home baby at the end of it all.

Best of luck to you 💖💖💖

@coffeewithmilk 7 potential follicles sounds great! I have an AFC of 34 and I felt disappointed with 11 follicles being tracked throughout the scans, as I saw others in these forums with 20-30. But it’s quality not quantity! I ended up with 12 eggs on the day and 9 blastocytes, which is much more than most people get. I’m sure everything will go well don’t worry! Let us know how you get on tomorrow and over the next few days Smile

coffeewithmilk · 13/04/2021 21:21

Thank you so much to both of you.
It's really put my mind at ease. I think I've just started to panic because I've seen people say 'oh great I've had 25 eggs collected' etc etc with really high numbers and then it just made me worried.
Hopefully tomorrow goes well and I will keep you updated.

Thank you again both of you. 💛

Usually high amount of eggs tend to have a high drop off rate aswell because not all of those eggs will be mature. My afc was 22 and they said I was expected to over respond, but I didn't and got 17 eggs and like @Gardenlady543 ended up with 9 blasts.
They could get more but even if they don't it's the quality of eggs that matter !
Good luck for your egg collection, my tips are a hot water bottle and painkillers. You will probably feel pretty bloated for a few days but keep drinking water

coffeewithmilk · 14/04/2021 15:35

All went well! They got 11 eggs! I was really surprised as I was expecting less.
Will wait to hear tomorrow how many have fertilised 🤞🏻
Feeling a little bit crampy but otherwise good xx

That’s amazing @coffeewithmilk what a result!! I honestly think aiming for this amount of eggs should be the goal in EC, it seems to result in the best rates of embryos!

Grettle · 14/04/2021 16:09

Excellent news, good luck!

The exhaust fell off our car on the way to egg collection! A 45 min drive away, had to hop out on the motorway, find a residential road for a taxi to pick us up to get there in the time frame after the last injection. Talk about stress!! All fine in the end, 12 eggs as well.

elsaesmeralda · 14/04/2021 16:32

Excellent result ! Will keep my fingers crossed for more good news tomorrow 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Gardenlady543 · 14/04/2021 17:01

Omg @Grettle what a palaver, that’s the last thing I would have wanted on EC day, I was so uncomfortable I couldn’t even bend to the ground. I hope you’re ok now.

coffeewithmilk · 14/04/2021 20:31

@Grettle oh my god I couldn't imagine that!! We got stuck in traffic and I was panicking but got there in time thankfully!
Have spent the day resting and will eagerly await the call tomorrow

@coffeewithmilk congratulations! My clinic said 10-15 is ideal so it's a great result. Now the rollercoaster wait to see how they perform! Best of luck and keep us updated 🤞

@grettle nightmare! Glad it turned out well Smile

coffeewithmilk · 15/04/2021 14:32

Got the call that 8 fertilised normally, 2 fertilised abnormally and 1 was immature.
Now the waiting until Monday/Tuesday will be the hardest part.
I'll need to try and keep myself distracted!x

@coffeewithmilk that sounds an amazing fertilisation rate! May I ask what was the reason you are doing IVF? I have low amh and will start in the next cycle and afraid of low fertilisation rate given I already don't expect many eggs.

coffeewithmilk · 15/04/2021 14:40

Thank you @jolly86
I became pregnant naturally last year (3 times)
1st pregnancy; left tubal pregnancy so tube was removed
2nd pregnancy: cornual ectopic (pregnancy surgically removed)
3rd pregnancy; right ruptured ectopic.

It seems I fell pregnant in quick succession but it was always in the wrong place, and now my 'transport system' is gone so there's no other way to conceive other than IVF.

Amazing numbers @coffeewithmilk You are doing so well. I'm sure your little baba is growing in that Petri dish right now 💖

jolly86 · 15/04/2021 14:42

@coffeewithmilk I see yours is a tubal problem I think it is rather easy to overcome with IVF so you must have good chances. All the best and I will keep reading the thread X

coffeewithmilk · 15/04/2021 14:44

Thank you @FingersXssd83 it's so weird to think of it that way, but I hope so too 🤞🏻💛

@jolly86 wishing you the best with your treatment 🤞🏻💜

coffeewithmilk · 19/04/2021 14:11

5 blasts today and 3 more that may catch up tomorrow on day 6.
Surprised and very happy with the results! 🙂

Brilliant result! You must be so relieved 🎉

jolly86 · 19/04/2021 14:47

Great result, did you have transfer today? That sounds a very good rate of embryos from eggs. May i ask your age? I think age is a big factor..

DramaBanana1 · 19/04/2021 14:51

Fantastic news! 😊

coffeewithmilk · 19/04/2021 15:35

Thank you all, I'm very happy.
@jolly86 I'm doing a frozen transfer, so just waiting for my bleed to start and then I can start a medicated cycle for transfer on day 21 I think - not 100% on that yet, still awaiting verification from the nurses.
I'm 29 (DH is 35) doing IVF due to absence of both Fallopian tubes (lost them both last year from ectopics)
