Chicken pox and TTC !

Hi

So my ivf cycle ( booked in for tomorrow ) has been cancelled Monday due to my little one having chicken pox !

I ve never had it but I can't help but feel a bit annoyed that not once did my clinic ask this bearing in mind I've had every test under the sun done ! But now my little girl has CP which spots appeared Saturday I can't start.

I totally understand the reasons why but I've been registered with them since January having so many different tests and completed a medical history that I find it so annoying that now I've found out there is a chicken pox immunity blood test you can get! I so would have got this if I had known

There is also a vaccine but I can't have it unless I want to wait 3 months ( 1st and 2nd dose a month apart and then you have to wait a cycle ) but if I've known this I would have had the vaccine maybe ?

Thing is I may even be immune and my mums
' thinks ' I may have had a very mild case as a baby but can't he sure

I'm waiting on a call from my gp to see if I can get the test because the way they've worked it it's practically life threatening if I come into contact with someone who has CP and I'm not immune and I contract it if pregnant !

Has anyone else come across this ?

X

Being exposed to chicken pox/ shingles when pregnant can be horrendous.

Information aimed at gps is available here:
gpnotebook.com/en-us/simplepage.cfm?ID=x20091013093303140836

Pregnant women will be attending the clinic for scans, so the clinic won’t be able to risk someone who could have the virus in the clinic.

I sympathize with your situation and delays are always awful, but unfortunately it seems you’ve had bad luck with you child catching chicken pox so close to your treatment.

strawberrysummer19 · 13/04/2021 18:55

Yeah it's horrible.

I guess they are just being on the safe side I understand that but the thing is I'm having trouble finding out where I can get the immunity checker blood test done from, my nurse at my GP said she's never heard of it?! Which is quite concerning.

I'm not even pregnant yet, so what my concern is say I delay a month then surely what if I come into contact with someone with chicken pox again ? I just want the immunity blood test so I can have peace of mind

And maybe a blessing in disguise thinking about it -
I could be months in and pregnant ( fingers crossed) then lo picked it up?! Doesn't bear thinking about does it so I should stop being miffed with being delayed !!!

Thing is I have my baby niece to stay quite often who is 9 months old, we have her for a night every 2/-3 weeks to give her mum a break as she is very young mum. We have done since we was newborn , does that mean now I can't have her ???
If I had that test then I would know
Can't believe it's not heard of at my GP ? X

Your GP surgery may be able to arrange the blood test, or if they can't then I think you can get it done privately. It's not a hugely common test, but it's certainly not what I'd call rare.

I really feel for you, being so close to starting and having to wait again. But it's much safer for you and for others to wait until this has passed - as the link above describes, chickenpox in pregnancy can be extremely bad and not something you'd ever want to risk.

I'd probably recommend not having your niece over while there's chickenpox in your household - there'd be a risk of her catching it and it can sometimes be serious in young babies.

I hope your daughter feels better soon - chickenpox can be a pretty miserable experience. Sending you all virtual hugs 💐

strawberrysummer19 · 13/04/2021 19:35

@Scirocco thank you for your nice words.
Thing is it was my GP that said they couldn't help as they didn't have the blood form for that particular test. So was on the list for a phone call and they called me back and still said they don't think they can help? They are calling back tomorrow.

I enquired about a private test and the hospital said they still need a blood form ?! They've booked the appointment said I still need a blood form ?

I just feel like I'm hitting a dead end.

There's one company online that say they can do it so just enquiring with them.

Oh no I wouldn't have my niece now, not when little one is so poorly. I just mean in the future.

Can I not have her at all with the risk I may get CP ? It's just worrying like IVF is stressful enough

@strawberrysummer19 you can get it privately through medichecks, but I don’t know how long it will take. Basically they have to post the kit out to you, unless there is a local clinic to you that has the kits (I’m in the midlands and the closest clinic to me that has the kits in Manchester). Then you need to post it back and then there’s a 2 day turnaround at the lab before you can get the result.

medichecks.com/products/chicken-pox-varicella-zoster-immunity-blood-test

You’ll need to add on the cost of getting the blood taken (I think it’s around £30).

This is a standard blood test, there is no reason that you’re Gp won’t be able to arrange it.

strawberrysummer19 · 13/04/2021 20:09

Thanks @Gardenlady543 yes that's who I've enquired with! £54 then £30 to have it at my hospital.

I know I was thinking the same ? She read out every single test they did do and said she couldn't find it, but was checking with a DR and would call me back tomorrow so just wanted a plan b if my GP couldn't do it but not sure why they made it so hard like I was asking for something extraordinary x

@strawberrysummer19 I am sure the GP will find it. It is likely to be a lot quicker and easier to do it through the GP.

strawberrysummer19 · 14/04/2021 14:52

@Gardenlady543 thank you, they've found the test and I'm having it Monday! Wahoo x

Can anyone help read the result? Am I immune ?

Just checked my gp online and can't speak to a dr until week day

Varicella-zoster LGC level - 903 miu ml

@strawberrysummer19 LGC? They should have tested for a Ig (immunoglobulin) I don’t know what LGC means. You’ll need to find out what they have tested for and the ranges for different interpretations and any other notes that came with the results. You’ll need them to read out everything on the result form.

strawberrysummer19 · 25/04/2021 15:29

@Gardenlady543
Yes will give them a call Monday as this is just the online result so might make more sense when I call in
