What is your AMH?

Just wanted to start a thread about AMH results.

I got mine yesterday and they were 18 I'm 31. I'm not sure if this a good result or not, however when I look online it looks as though it's normal for my age?

I see my gynaecologist on Tuesday to discuss blood results as also checked my thyroid and prolactin levels.

  1. It was 1.1 two years ago. AFC was 4.

Fallen pregnant naturally twice, first try, since then. All well! My TSH was previously 4.5 so I'm on levo, as soon as it stabilised to around 1 I seem to fall pregnant without issues.

So, it seems that low AMH is not necessarily the end of the world.

beachbum85 · 12/04/2021 14:33

Aged 34: AMH 5.8, AFC 9 (that went up to 12 at 35)

TheSnufflet · 12/04/2021 15:47

I'm 34 and my AMH is 20.8. Agree it's pretty meaningless by itself.

Happinesscomesfromwithin · 12/04/2021 23:03

@Livingmagicallyagain that's interesting u say that. My TSH is 3.9 I've just started Levo - hoping it will lower mine and I'll fall pregnant easily once it's lowered.

AMH 1 / AFC 7 @ 32. Not sure how to digest this news

thislittlebird · 13/04/2021 19:18

Like @Gardenlady543 said, that's really interesting @Scirocco. Mine was 36 (AFC 28) and I've wondered how much it could change when I next have it done. I'm also 37.

Gardenlady543 · 13/04/2021 19:38

@lalody are you having IVF at the moment? If so the AFC is going to be the most important thing and that’s a really good AFC for an AMH of 1.

Pumpkinspice77 · 13/04/2021 20:55

AMH means absolutely didly squat in terms of your fertility. It just shows how well or not you may respond to IVF treatment. But again it’s just a marker. Mine is 3.6 and 31. Was expected to get 3 eggs, miraculously got 5. All fertilised, resulted in 3 good quality embryos. So it was a correct indicator of how I’d respond (poorly) but my egg quality is clearly quite good.

lalody · 13/04/2021 22:37

@Gardenlady543 I'm looking into clinics, but not sure if it's better to go for ED straightaway. Worried that with these results the success rates pretty low? Maybe as low as < 1% from what I've seen from other posts

Gardenlady543 · 13/04/2021 22:45

@lalody you could try a EC cycle and see how you get on? it really is down to the follicles rather than the AMH, the AFC can vary slightly month to month, but if you had 7 when you took stims then that’s potentially 7 eggs, which would be a good outcome for a cycle for low AMH. Where about’s are you based? My friend is in London and said these are the ones that can be quite good for low AMH:
Kings fertility
Create
Evewell
Fertility plus

lalody · 14/04/2021 09:49

@Gardenlady543 I'm in Woking so not too far from London. I've had a look at Create but will look into the rest you've suggested too! This is very helpful, thank you.

Kitekat81 · 14/04/2021 10:06

Age 39, AMH 2.2. AFC in January was 6, February was 7, April only 2.

@lalody if you are only 32 I would definitely not be thinking about DE yet. There may be fewer in there but at 32 they should still be good quality. I'm 39 and still looking to see what I can do with my own eggs, and mine are 7 years older than yours.

lalody · 14/04/2021 11:08

@Kitekat81 this is reassuring, thank you very much.

Yokey · 14/04/2021 11:26

@lalody I'd also try with my own eggs if I were you. As others have said, you might not get many but they could be good quality. (My egg quality was good at 36 so at 32 there's a good chance.)

jolly86 · 14/04/2021 11:31

@lalody an afc of 7 is very good as far as I understand. In any case, what I get (others' experiences!) is the body can only produce so many good eggs- hence even if someone gets 10 or 20 follicules at the end the number of embryos surviving to day 5 doesn't change that much. It is great to get 1 good embryo and a bonus to get more! It is strange that you were given 1 percent, you are very young to go to DE. Do you have any other fertility issues?

lalody · 14/04/2021 12:17

@jolly86 - so far the Low AMH and AFC are the only issues. All tests and scans were normal. I haven't been given stats yet. I was basing the success rate on others experiences I've seen in the forums. I'm going to give EC a go. Just looking into clinics in the meantime.

Happinesscomesfromwithin · 14/04/2021 22:33

@lalody many women concieve naturally with low AMH. So I wouldn't worry about that affecting your chances.

Ttcforever2021 · 15/04/2021 16:22

I just got my AMH back and it says >99

I have PCOS so I think that's a factor but seems excessive.

Ilikeviognier · 15/04/2021 18:40

Just to chip in here- low amh means nothing for natural conception. Recent studies have proven this. Look it up.

My amh was 2.8 age 34. I was gutted and given the low odds story. However, I’ve been pregnant 3 times since. One of those times was through Ivf which worked first time despite only 2 eggs being retrieved, one of the other pregnancies was achieved when the ivf baby was 8 months old - I started trying immediately after finishing breastfeeding as I was convinced it would take years. Instead, I was staring at a positive hpt test 2 weeks later.

Point of the story- if low amh is the only issue- it’s totally not the end of the world and the 1 percent stat is a load of rubbish in my opinion.

PT8998 · 15/04/2021 21:10

Just completed a round of IVF and had my transfer today. So I have not had it checked recently. When it was checked prior to this round of IVF, my AMH was 122. I can’t remember exactly when my bloods were taken so I was either 30 or 31.

Happinesscomesfromwithin · 15/04/2021 23:23

122? That's extremely high. Do you have PCOS? I have PCOS but normal AMH.

OP posts:
PT8998 · 15/04/2021 23:33

@Happinesscomesfromwithin I do indeed, even the clinic were really shocked at high it was. They said they hadn’t really seen it that high before.

Luan82 · 24/04/2021 17:35

Blimey I'm so pleased I spotted this thread - I've been driving myself crazy worrying about my low amh level, 38- one ectopic pregnancy in June last year and aside from that been TTC for 18 months now, have always worried about early menopause as mum started the process at 42... about to embark on IVF, AMH was 4.6 in January and AFC was 7 in November - I've been told they are planning to put me on the highest stims so slightly nervous about the level of meds but hey ho!! I have to say reading everyone's stories really helps! 🙏🏼🙌🏼🌈

firefly37 · 25/04/2021 16:27

My AMH was 7 at 36 for my first IVF cycle and resulted in my little boy... My AMH at 39 for second fresh cycle was 5 and resulted in my little girl. In my first cycle the doctor was very negative about my chances but as you can see... You only need one good one in a cycle! xx

kennetrose · 26/04/2021 10:11

Mine was 13.8 when tested in September aged 32. My AFC at that time was 13. I am now 33 and haven't had AMH retested but a new doctor checked my AFC and it was 20 last week. I said I was concerned about my AMH and he said 13.8 is absolutely fine.

People with PCOS typically have high AMH and this skews the mean. When I realised that I felt much better about my AMH.
