timed medicated intercourse then IUI

Not for me but a friend.

A friend of mine has been doing medicated cycles with timed intercourse for the past 5 months (I think) but still not pregnant. she seems to have a very long ovulation cycle which is now being controlled with clomid.

So they've decided to move onto IUI which to me is a tad pointless after several months medicated cycles.

My DH and I had known fertility issues (cancer) so we jumped straight to IVF which i think would be the more sensible next step. Why after several medicated cycles would you go to IUI? I don't feel it adds any additional help.

Has anyone done this with success?

I had 6 months of clomid with no success. We then were offered 3 attempts at IUI before moving onto IVF. We decided to give IUI a try even though the chances of it working were low (only 10 -14%) We had medicated IUI with clomid and menopur then another injection to make me ovulate. Amazingly it worked first time and I have birth to my son in November. For me, I think it was the extra medication that helped. If we went straight for IVF we would have forgone our 3 IUI attempts. (We couldn't do IUI if our IVF failed). We were the lucky ones but I guess proof that it can work. We were also lucky in that we could have done our 3 IUI attempts back to back so we had nothing to loose by giving it a go. I wish your friend all the luck in the world in whatever she decides to do x

I had two cycles of clomid last year and they both failed.
We have moved on and I have had my first medicated IUI two days ago..time will tell.
Trying not to get too excited.
It is great to see that it happens first time for some..gives me some hope.
For me I’m convinced the reason why we haven’t conceived is because of the scarring on my cervix..so I’m hopeful IUI will work.
All of our results were fine..we have a son already.
he took 2 years to conceive but we got there eventually on our own.
Been trying three years this time,it’s so frustrating.
My hubby won’t do IVF although I might be swayed if we had the money..which we don’t so it’s off the table.
I hope your friend tries the IUI,best of luck x

I think it really depends on the issue? And mostly you never really know what the issue is! So if it happens to be one that iui would work for then i think it works? And if it doesn't, then it won't?
I'm just starting my first iui cycle now. I've got 3 on the nhs and I have to have it before they'll do ivf. I have zero hope it'll work. But then I've read a few posts where people say it has! So who knows.

Best of luck with your cycles.
Hope you get lucky, you never know!
Will be so much less stress than ivf that’s for sure.
Hats off to those who do it again and again as I found the IUI was enough.
We went private as nhs waiting time was just too long..they didn’t seem very interested as we already have a child.
4 days till we find out if it worked now and I’m not feeling very hopeful tbh!
The progesterone pessaries are making me feel pregnant I think..but who knows.
I’ve literally been torturing myself reading all sorts of shit since I started this process..not sure why as it makes sod all difference!!
We have said we will have another go if it doesn’t work..there goes my new kitchen lol

@Violet36 Good luck! I look forward to hearing how it goes!

Wish I had some good news to write on here but first IUI failed last month.
Just been told that I have too many follicles for this month so it’s been cancelled.
They are talking about doing next
Months cycle without the clomid which is fine by me!!
Paintfairy how are your cycles going?
