Hi all, new to Mumsnet! My husband and I have been trying for a baby for 3 years and as far as I'm aware I have never been pregnant. I had just recently started visiting a gynecologist at a private clinic and he said done a load of tests that show my tubes, ovaries, etc are all perfect and that I ovulate as normal. He thinks it may be a hormonal imbalance although blood work through my GP came back as "normal" whatever that means. He has prescribed me with cyclogest 400mg vag pessaries which I managed to start today. I'm looking for people who are in the same type of situation as me or have been through what we are going through at the moment who can give me tips/advice/tell me what to expect! Look forward to hearing from you and tia x

Hi BigDodge21. I was in a similar situation in that everything was normal with no obvious reason for my infertility. I was referred for IVF though, without ever trying anything else (NHS). I ttc naturally for many years, certainly long enough to know it wasn't going to happen without help!

Seems strange that the GP tests came back fine if you have a hormonal imbalance (I must stress I'm not in the know about these things!). Do you think the repeat test showed something different or do you think the GP was more easily satisfied with the results? Did your doctor say your progesterone might need a boost? It would be great if that did the trick!

Hi @BigDodge21 it sounds like they have done some baseline investigations and they’ve come back as normal, I take it that you’ve never had a positive pregnancy test? I’m not sure why they’ve put you on the progesterone, is there any indication on your bloods that your progesterone is low? Is your gynaecologist a fertility specialist? If so are they not considering any other treatment. How old are you? And do you meet the criteria for NHS funding of IVF (age, BMI, precious children)?

@BigDodge21 What's the reason they have put you on cyclogest if your blood tests have come back fine? This is the first I've heard of it in this context but I must admit I haven't got a huge amount of experience. Also, has your husband been tested as a significant proportion of infertility is due to male factor? X
