How many rounds of ivf did it take you for success?

Hi all, I’m wondering how long it took for you to get success with IVF.

I have done 2 transfers - x1 morula and x1 AA blast both BFN.

I’ve done 5 rounds of IVF - 1st round morula transferred BFN, 2nd round no embryos, 3rd round x2 AA blasts, 1 transferred and BFN, 1 frozen, 4th round (moved to embryo banking) 3 AA blasts PGS tested 1 abnormal, 1 inconclusive, 1 no result. 5th round cancelled due to poor response.

I’m asking as I’ve 3 friends who did IVF starting after me and all 3 got pregnant with 1st transfer from 1st egg collection and now I’m worried that it’s not going to work for me if it hasn’t already...

Cycle 1 - 2 blastocysts - both 3BB.
FET 1 = BFN
FET 2 = BFP but ruptured ectopic and lost my last tube. Can't say for certain was definitely an IVF pregnancy as also tried naturally that month

Cycle 2 - 2 blastocysts - both 5BB. PGS tested. 1 abnormal and 1 mosaic. Allowed to transfer the mosaic
FET 3 = BFN

Cycle 3-4 - embryo banking and change of protocol to natural modified IVF - 4 blastocysts- 5BA, day 6 4BB, 4AA, 3AA

Cycle 5 reverted back to mild IVF as tamoxifen makes lining too thick for transfer - no blastocysts

Transferred the 5BA and the 4BB on my 4th transfer - BFP with twins

I was also discouraged as everyone I knew who also got their BFP With their first cycle and first transfer (or at least 2nd transfer). I don't know many/anyone who did multiple egg collections like I did x

Thanks @ivfbeenbusy glad to find someone else with a more complicated story but also sorry for all you have been through.

I keep trying to tell myself I’ve only actually done 2 transfers and only one with a blastocyst so hopefully there is time yet for it to work.

Hello, I’ve been wondering this too recently. As you know from the banking thread, so far I’ve done 3 cycles, 1 FET BFN despite PGS normal and lining good. I now realise how hard IVF is. I haven’t heard of many 1st time successes, especially considering most people don’t use PGS, so I think your friends have been exceptionally lucky.

I think clinics often view success as a ‘best of 3 transfers’ approach, but that may depend on whether all issues are known and resolved. I wish I had a good idea on how many I’ll need so I can realistically work out whether I can afford it and whether I should continue past this year as I’m 42 now. Hopefully your luck will come.

Hi @ForeverAintEnough12 I’m in a similar position, I have had 2 unsuccessful transfers. I have paused for investigations, I had my embryos PGT-A tested, 83% were normal, my specialist said she was worried as clearly the issue isn’t the embryo it’s implantation. As @IslandStars mentions I think planning for it taking 3 transfers in the best circumstances is usually mentioned. The chance of success per cycle is somewhere between 1 in 4 and 1 in 3. Normally specialists start considering further investigations after 3-4 transfers of good quality embryos, which is clearly frustrating due to the physical and psychological impact of unsuccessful cycles.

So far I’ve had recurrent implantation blood tests and I’m currently having an ERA EMMA ALICE, my specialist said she would usually hold off on these tests but because I got 9 blastocytes and there is a high rate of euploid embryos, she can’t put it down to the embryos.

1st round fresh failed then got my DS from the FET.

Next 5 cycles both failed and fresh BFN or MC or nothing suitable to transfer.

It's really shit.

Sending you a big hug 💐

1 OE failed
1 OE cancelled
1 DE failed
1 DE missed miscarriage
1 DE live birth

I've just failed my second IVF cycle fresh transfer, both occasions I've had plenty of embryos but nothing good enough to freeze. All I seem to see is people who have succeeded on their first or second cycle/transfer and I have been anxious too, you ladies who have gone through more rounds are amazing mentally even 2 cycles had taken a lot out of me.

ForeverAintEnough12 · 30/03/2021 19:58

Thanks all, bit of a mix then. I just couldn’t believe it that out of the 4 of us I’m the only one who has had to do more than one egg collection and more than one transfer and I’m still not pregnant. I’m glad to hear some of you got there after a few transfers. It gives me some hope!

I have had 4 transfers, all failures. No known issues. I've got one left but I just can't see it ever happening now. There's obviously something not right. Tough isn't it? Good luck hope you have better fortune than me.

FingersXssd83 · 30/03/2021 22:26

Cycle 1 Fresh BFN
Cycle 2 Fresh BFN
Cycle 3 FET BFN
Cycle 3 FER BFP

Didn't think it would ever work for me as most people I knew it had worked for had success after first or second transfer.

It took embryos 6&7 to finally get our DD.

MrsC2018 · 31/03/2021 10:16

Cycle 1 Fresh transfer - BFN
Cycle 1 FET - BFN
Cycle 1 FET - BFN
Cycle 2 Fresh transfer 2 embryos - BFN
Cycle 3 Fresh transfer 2 embryos - BFP

Took 5 transfers from 3 cycles to get my daughter

shazzz1xx · 31/03/2021 14:20

Cycle 1 - miscarriage
Cycle 2 - now 20month old
