Hi all,

I couldn't find an up to date clomid thread so was hoping to start one so we can go through our journeys together.

I'm 35, TTC #3, have unexplained infertility. We've been trying since September 2017, finally prescribed clomid by my consultant. I took it days 5-9 and was scanned on Friday where he confirmed there was one follicle at 22mm and 2 at 11mm. He thought I'd ovulate that day or the day after. I only got a positive OPK today and definite ovulation pain. So not really sure what's happening! Here's hoping for some positive news this month!

@lastbany no scans or monitoring, the consultant just gave me a three month prescription and said use ovulation tests - just bought the expensive clear blue kit!

lastbany · 25/03/2021 19:04

@dragonfly1978 I was gonna get a ovulation kit today will get one tomorow!

chloedancer897 · 25/03/2021 20:20

@lastbany hi, thanks so much. I appreciate you saying that. We are all on the same boat so I think we should all be supportive!

I only started CD5 because I couldn't get the prescription earlier lol. So it wasn't a conscious decision.

I have been given 3 months of clomid. We are currently on the path to get private IVF which we didn't want to do but now it's been 3 1/2 years almost, we see no other choice. It's so expensive and the success rates aren't great so I'm really hoping this clomid helps!

Side effects, I got headaches just. And some bloating but it went away quickly enough. Just be wary of a lot of pain as you can over stimulate. I was also told to monitor for any vision changes as that can be quite dangerous. Will you try the clomid for a few months even? I've read that up to 6 months is totally safe. Sometimes it takes a few cycles for it to work

@dragonfly1978 I used the CB digital ovulation kit this month. It did tell me I ovulated way later than I thought. I had a scan on CD12 which showed a 22mm follicle so my consultant thought I'd ovulate the next day but I didn't get a static smiley until CD15! I usually get it on CD12 like clockwork so I do think the clomid messed with my hormones. Why have they decided not to scan you or do bloods? Bloods will at least confirm ovulation for you which is helpful to know if it's working.

Wow @dragonfly1978 I just read your story. I'm so sorry it hasn't been happening for you and you've tried everything. Fingers crossed for you! Here's hoping clomid does the trick for all of us!x

@chloedancer897 ye so I do have pain but take a pain killer and it goes so I'm thinking it wouldn't be classed as too bad?? Was even thinking what if I just take for 3 days but not sure what effect tht would have! No I'm trying this one cycle and Thts it xx

chloedancer897 · 25/03/2021 21:33

@lastbany I think you should complete the cycle just to give yourself the best chance. Are you getting any follow up?

OP posts:
lastbany · 25/03/2021 21:39

@chloedancer897 I've took three days worth , I suffer with quite bad health anxiety and every twinge I'm like omg!!! Feel like caus I ovulate myself I feel like I'm gonna get tht awful over stimulating thing , think I've read up too much and it's scared me!!! See how I feel tonorow really want to finish course as only two more days worth

chloedancer897 · 25/03/2021 22:04

@lastbany i totally understand that feeling. Are you getting any follow up? I found that getting the scan really helped alleviate my fears and also showed me that it worked so it made me feel better about continuing to take it ❤️

OP posts:
lastbany · 25/03/2021 22:07

@chloedancer897 nope no scans or anything I can pay for follicle scan it's too expensive! I'm just taking this to give me a boost this month if doesn't work will leave it and think Thts it no more babies for me then if happens it happens but no more pressure!

Crazydoglady123 · 26/03/2021 07:21

@lastbany I don't know how much your clinic is charging for scan but there are lots of private sonographers around (best place to start is Google "pregnancy scans near me" and see if they offer other scans. I have a lady near me who charges £80. I'm going back to her Saturday to see if the Clomid has caused any cysts. Re the over stimulating, I have twice now but the first time was painful because I ended up with 5 haemorraghic cysts that ruptured from DTD. The blood and fluid they leak is an irritant to your insides so that's where the pain come from. This time my ovaries just feel tender but no real pain but we haven't DTD as we have to abstain.

lastbany · 26/03/2021 08:19

@Crazydoglady123 wow that sounds awful!!! So did your ovaries overstimulate?? How come there letting you use again if it caused such problems?? This is why I'm scared of! Never had cysts or anything and had 3 children all via c section but after scans show that all was perfect after! So I'm very worried of causing more trouble than good! I had a quick look around this area actually and there £150 cheapest could find! I know it's not a great deal but for ya at the moment it really is but then I know I have to weigh up my health!

Crazydoglady123 · 26/03/2021 09:10

@lastbany I really don't know why my consultant thought I'd be okay a second time 🤦🏽‍♀️ I had been on three cycles of Letrozole before going onto Clomid so whether he thought just too much in my system? The first time I wasn't monitored and they wouldn't scan me when I was in pain so I took myself for a private one to find I was in a mess. I then decided that private IVF was the only next route and told my consultant but he said while I'm waiting for the consultations to try one more cycle of Clomid. I said I didn't want to risk it happening again and he said it won't and I asked if I can take 50mg (I'm on 100mg) and said not still take the 100mg but they'll scan me on CD12. I took his advice and tried it and when they scanned me had 6 follicles on my left ovary and 1 on my right so really wish I had gone with my gut and not taken it! Anyway, for me as we've abstained I get to start my IVF off this Clomid cycle so I start my injections next week. I know it's a pain paying out for a scan but I strongly feel you should be scanned before ovulation on Clomid. The first time when I had 5 cysts, they were secondary to ovulation so I potentially released 5 eggs so they were worried about me being pregnant to up to 5 embryos! My scan Saturday is for my peace of mind as if I have cysts my IVF stims will be delayed.

lastbany · 26/03/2021 09:44

@Crazydoglady123 I'm on the 50mg, wonder if you would have taken half dose you would have been able to try! So annoying, what's the chances you would fertilise all of them thou? It all confuses me like now I'm thinking of o produce two eggs but only one fertilised does tht mean I will get a period? Even if I'm pregnant?! You always think of hundred questions soon as you leave doctors room!! I was late taking my clomid told day 5 however when I looked back I think I took day 6! Due to time o staters period I didn't realise! Ive continued to take but god hope doesn't make difference

Crazydoglady123 · 26/03/2021 09:58

I don't know. I'm so put off the stuff I'd never take it again myself. Yeah it's not 100% guaranteed you'd fertilise them all but legally the doctors tell you that you have to abstain. If you released two and one fertilised that's still a normal pregnancy and you wouldn't have a period. I always took mine cd2-5

Crazydoglady123 · 26/03/2021 09:58

Sorry 2-6

lastbany · 26/03/2021 12:24

@Crazydoglady123 didn't even realise! Till just been looking back ahhh well we will soon see! Tbh my body doesn't feel too bad today so maybe it was just getting sued to the meds! Have full ache around tht area but nothing major so atm I feel happy to carry on :)

chloedancer897 · 27/03/2021 14:55

It's so frustrating. We rely so heavily on believing everything the specialists tell us and yet @Crazydoglady123 has been let down so badly. I have found chatting to other people has armed me with info so I had a better idea going into it all. I knew I wanted to try 50mg first but my consultant was very clear I needed the scans and bloods which I'm so glad of.

@lastbany what day are you on now? I got my scan 2 days after I finished the clomid. We didn't DTD until we got the scan just to make sure. As @Crazydoglady123 said, it can be quite detrimental to not know how your body reacts on it although I know a lot of clinicians don't necessarily scan on the first round. The reassuring thing is that you aren't feeling any ill effects.

lastbany · 27/03/2021 17:49

@Crazydoglady123 wow! So where are you in the cycle now? Have you decided to continue or stop?? So I'm day 5 today (I take before bed) had very achey tummy/ ovaries today so again was thinking shall I take last one or not!! But think it's settled it's very on off! I am worried now with not getting scanned just don't get how they come to conclusion only 12% chance of multiples! When they don't know how everyone will react to the meds!!!

lastbany · 27/03/2021 18:15

So far I've had
Bloating, mild pain (tummy and ovary) slight flushing not much, headache started today, slight sick feeling and tired x

chloedancer897 · 27/03/2021 21:10

@Crazydoglady123 oh my word. What does the free fluid in the R ovary mean? You clearly need a lower dose! Are you ovulating without clomid?
