We had our doctor consultation on Wednesday just gone, we had both been to the clinic the day before for an ultrasound to check follicles and a semen analysis. Both fine and we are going to do a short protocol, it starts the 2nd day of your period... I told the doctor that the day before I had just finished, so could we start the ivf for my April period... she told us that it was very possible as all we needed now was a blood test for Hep B and HIV and to sign some consents and for me to learn my injections and medications ( all online, due to covid). So yesterday at 4 they sent 13 information leaflets and letters to our patient portal and consent forms.... within that we had a letter saying out first nurse appointment which is a telephone appointment is April 20th???? They are closed all weekend. I'm just confused why our first nurse appointment is so far away when we will of done all our consents this weekend and the only thing is the bloods, which our gp could do in a day for us.... any help? Anyone know why this is such a long wait... I've got all weekend now with this in my mind 24/7 and as we all know, ttc is draining mentally already. Thanks ladies xxx

@Rdaisyleo are you with Care by any chance? If so you can speak to the nurses at anytime. I expect the nurse appointment is to go through exactly what you take and when, but this takes about 5 mins and they have videos to show you how to administer the injections. In order to have the cycle as easily as possible you need to: ensure the clinic have the capacity at the time you want, make sure you have all the medications and go through all the online stuff.

@Rdaisyleo I don't want to make you annoyed or anxious. But a similar thing happened to me. In that we had our consultant telephone about the protocol at christmas and told we could start on day 22 of my next cycle. We had our nurses appointment booked for what should of been day 19 so could start straight away after this appointment. But when we went to the nurses appointment to go through the protocol, how to take all the medications and to get my prescription we were told we would have to delay till the next cycle. The nurse told us the doctors were always telling people they can start straight away but its the nurses that have overview of all coupes due to start. And that due to having too many couples booked in to start already they didn't have capacity. Apparently the doctor never communicated the plan for us to start to the nurses. But saying this I know all clinics run differently. Hoping you can start asap

@gardenlady543 yes we are at care. I tried ringing the clinic but its closed till Monday and said if its an emergency then to call a nurse on this number.... I don't want to call them and piss them off because obviously its not an emergency. I've emailed a lady that has been in contact from the start to help with any questions I have but I got a generic email back to tell me she was out of the office.... @donimo to be honest your post hasn't made me feel anxious, its made me understand that maybe this is a common occurrence with the doctors telling you we can start on your next period when in fact the nurses will know how booked up they are and I didn't think about the fact that they done want to rush aload of people through, they want to make sure they have the time for everyone like PP said. I'm just abit ugh about it all Hahaha. I've told my dad and boss this week, thinking right I've got to set a plan in place to have time off work etc so let's tell them... and I've told them it's looking like April but obviously I was very wrong

@Rdaisyleo hopefully it will all be fine. But just wanted to make you aware. Like you said someone needs to consider all the couples and cycles they are dealing with. Also I was told covid has reduced clinics capacity for how many they can see at a time. But I like you had arranged time off etc and then had to rearrange it all. But I had to keep reminding myself we will get there in the end and another month wait wasn't the end of the world. Hope it all works out for you!

Rdaisyleo · 20/03/2021 12:30

@donimo yeah you're right. I'll keep telling myself that. I've waited 5 years. What's another month or too, thankyou xx

@Rdaisyleo in my experience Care will accommodate everyone, they adjust protocols to stagger people, eg lengthen the suppression med course. I’m sure it will be fine, nobody will be around at the weekend. Give the clinic a call on Monday, I usually speak/email my specialists secretary.

Rdaisyleo · 20/03/2021 17:04

Thanks @gardenlady543. I will do xx

@Rdaisyleo I'm with Care Fertility (NHS round). The nurses are far more knowledgeable on when you can actually start. They have also been very kind. The Care Fertility branch I'm with aren't doing egg collection between 30th March and 6th April (Easter week / weekend) which has pushed things back.

Rdaisyleo · 22/03/2021 19:49

@curbsideprophet hi, yes I'm also nhs round. I was given the option to go to the hospital (I think it was the hospital) or the private clinic which was care and I just thought it would be a relaxed environment there. I visited last week for follicle check and it was lovely, all very welcoming, felt like a home. They are all really helpful. I have spoken to a lady today and she explained why it's longer than what the doctor told us, and we've been put on the short notice waiting list if anything changes. I suppose it gives me abit more time to feel prepared for it all
