Hi .. so I am in my mid 40s and am desperately trying to become pregnant. I had one round of ivf 9 years ago and have a ds from that ... I have been trying for 2 years and miraculously fell pregnant naturally 2 years ago but sustained an injury and lost that pregnancy. I have been trying so hard to fall pregnant since and am so so mentally and emotionally drained. My GP isn't helpful and keeps saying at my age I should be relaxing and age is a barrier etc etc but won't refer me for tests. I have been saving up a little for tests but don't know where to start. I have regular periods and recently have seen an increase in white lumpy discharge. My period is 3 days late ... I am always always on time but I am not pregnant. Can anyone assist in terms of where I start? I'm based in Edinburgh and am despairing that time is running out to fall pregnant xx

Hi @Minty11 - I'm sorry your GP isn't being as supportive as they could be. It might be worth making an appointment with one of the private clinics in Scotland for an initial consultation and fertility assessment. That way you can get some information about whether natural conception is an option and what treatment options might be able to help. The clinic may well want to check your hormone levels with some blood tests and do an ultrasound scan, as a starting point.

Age is sadly a factor when TTC, so you might also want to think about whether you'd be interested in donor eggs or embryo adoption if investigations find your chances of success could be too low using your own eggs.

There are a couple of threads on here about fertility services in Scotland - I don't know how to link to them, sorry, but at least one is fairly active should should be relatively easy to find.

Thank you so much for your response. I'm now angry and frustrated and have very very very sore boobs. I'm also getting period signs but still no period. Another test yesterday afternoon was negative ... I am now 7 days late and have been stressed moreso in the past but periods always like clockwork. I am going to test again tomorrow and make an appointment with the nurse to have bloods taken I think (if gp allows this). I am hoping (pls god) that its too early to detect hcg and I am miraculously pregnant... wishful thinking x

Hi I've just made the plunge and joined! I've just turned 47 have daughter who is now 5. I had just turned 42 when she was born. Conceived in just 3 months! Been trying for a 2nd for 3 years had 1 chemical and 2 early mc and a miscarriage at 8 weeks 2018! Not giving up hope yet as i know people who have had first baby at my age! Just bought Co Q10 to see if this helps. Still get regular periods. Had loads of tests for fertility, scans last year all came back fine. Thinking its the quality of my eggs as specialist said my ovarian reserve was great for my age! So want one last try to get pregnant. Staying positive though really do know time isn't on my side!

Hey .. Nice to meet u. I am new on here too.. that is so encouraging and refreshing to hear and really wish u lots of success. Dont give up at all!! Am not...I will get my little baby no matter what it takes.. I fell pregnant at 42 but it wasn't meant to be for me and lost that at 8 weeks. That was a natural conception after being told I would not get pregnant. So there is hope... I know I'm not pregnant as im almost 8 -9 days late and in all my life (except the last time I was pregnant) I have never been late. My tests are negative and I am ashamed to say I bought almost £80 worth of tests in the last two weeks to no positive result... I had bloods taken today so I have asked for the HCG levels to be looked at. I have a heightened sense of smell and constantly smell period blood which is annoying as AF has not visited yet... but a week ago had quite a bit of white discharge. I am beginning to feel sick as of today but tbh I do have a sore throat and wonder if I'm run down with something which is delaying the period.

As for ur case I had friends who conceived at 47 and one trying at 52 so it's all good. Good luck on yr journey xxx
