Infertility Journey (Northern Ireland)

Just wanted to know what experiences other people in NI had on the NHS infertility rollercoaster.

My story:
I was refered in Jan 2021 to the Regional Fertility centre. Both my partner and myself were sent for tests beforehand. We were then seen for our first appointment there in November 2019.

Found out I had a paraovarian cyst and PCOS with non regular cycles.

Was refered for an operation to remove the cyst but then the pandemic hit.

Managed to go privately to get the cyst removed in December 2020 and now have a telephone appointment in March at the centre again.

I've just heard so few stories about what happens after the tests and the treatment starts so would love to know what happens after the initial appointments. Trying to settle the nerves!

I think we are starting OI before IUI or IVF.

I get this is a journey but 3 years and no luck ... Just hoping 2021 is our year!

Hi just wondering how you got on with this? We were referred by our Dr July 2021 and haven't heard from our Dr since and haven't heard from the fertility clinic either. Starting to lose hope and we've now been trying 3.5 years. 😞

Hi we were eventually referred about last May and only just got a call for a cancellation week before last so hopefully you won't have much longer to wait. I had bloods etc done and am on the list for a call back in July

Hi ladies, any updates regarding your regional fertility appointment?
I was told I'm on the waiting list for my first nhs consultation.
We were reffered late August, today rang to check we're definitely on the list and said it will be around March time when we get first appointment.
They said we can pay privately to have our first consultation so we would get on treatment list quicker ?
Does anyone know where the nhs consultations take place?they either said on Lisburn road or Lisburn 🤷‍♀️
I've tried to google where they take place from but can't find where they are talking about. They said it's a private company and 2 of the drs who work there work for nhs.
Anyone know where they are talking about ? I remember seeing seeing an old post of someone talking about their first consultation and i just know it wasn't the same location so I'm wondering where on earth they are directing us to.
Contemplating if we should pay for private initial if it would speed things up

Hello,
We were referred early August, but the waiting list is so long we’ve decided to bite the bullet and go through a private clinic in the ROI.
I believe the practice you’re referring to is the Kingsbridge Hospital on Lisburn Road. I had a couple of appointments with them to investigate my fertility issues initially and they were shockingly bad. Maybe it’s just my luck. I phoned in ovo to enquire about appointments, but their waiting list is quite long as well (5 months).
It’s soooo frustrating :(

Hi just wondering if anyone in the posts above has has an egg collection at the regional fertility clinic, Belfast? I have mine coming up soon and am starting to freak out about it! Was just wondering if anyone who’s been through it could tell me the exact process of egg collection day from start to
finish to help settle me.
thanks

@SLG89 how did you get on at RFC? I’m just at the top of the list and have accepted the offer and wondering how long it will all take

VioIetMoon · 16/08/2025 16:35

@Sarahdaydreamer1234 after accepting the offer we had started within just a few months. I think it may have been a month or so when we signed consents after that. It should move relatively quickly at this stage compared to the waiting list you've probably just experienced with them
