Hi Ladies

Me and my husband have been passed from pillar to post since mid last year and got nowhere after being told we have male factor infertility. Does anyone have any experience of self funding at Birmingham Women’s Hospital? Do I just book a private consultation? I’ve looked their website and can only see treatment costs but nothing about consultations etc.

You have to request a referral from your GP even though you are self funding and then wait for an appointment to come through

Have you tired Create Birmingham? Much shorter wait times. I gave birth to twins last month thanks to Create

I have a friend who is self funding at BWH and they completely messed her around. She was contacted to say she was top of the list, so had an appointment and the consultant told her she was no where near the top. Had to follow the complaints procedure and now they are getting ready to start. I understand with covid they are having to monitor how many people they have ongoing, but I think that's an appalling way to treat people, paying or not.

I've personally not had a great experience there as a fertility patient, so was pleased when my ccg dropped them as an ivf provider.

I guess it depends how quickly you want to get started. The referral from your GP could take a few weeks, referral to first appointment for us was nearly 5 months.

Hi, this is the thread I was looking for! Our GP finally referred us to Birmingham Women's Hospital and we were booked in for our initial consultation in May. Is there anybody else getting referred to the same hospital or having their initial consultation? Is anybody going through IVF with them at the moment? Could somebody share their experience what the timeframe is with them from the initial consultation to the procedure itself? What should I expect from the initial consultation?
