Clomid

Hi there, I have just been diagnosed with PCOS - bit of a surprise tbh.
My doc has proscribed Clomid but I am a little confused..
I have been using OPKs and BBT checking every month. Every month I see a surge and a BBT spike...which would indicate that I am ovulating...right? So why would I need Clomid? Admittedly my cycles can be irregular.
I would really appreciate any insight anyone could give.

I have pcos and have also taken clomid. I never used to temp so can't help with that but I do know opks don't confirm ovulation, you may see a surge but it doesn't guarantee you go on to ovulate. Also I think opks can be unreliable for those of us with pcos.
I would presume they've prescribed clomid to induce ovulation (although it doesn't work for everyone) I released two eggs on my first round of clomid and that was 50mg. I still didn't conceive but it certainly helped. What dosage have you been given?
I also know I ovulated each month on it due to the ovulation pains. I never had them before so it was pretty obvious it was helping
Good luck!

@humbags I have been diagnosed with PCOS previously but my fertility consultant thinks I just have PCO but my 21 day bloods were showing low PG so not ovulating/ovulating as well as I should be. I did do OPKs about a year ago and used to always get a surge but like @elsaesmeralda I wasn't sure if it was true ovulation. I was moved onto high dose Letrozole first which is better for people with PCOS. I did three rounds and a 21day bloods on last cycle which showed low PG still so he moved me on to 100g Clomid which worked but worked a bit too well. I ended up releasing 5 eggs that cycle but unfortunately didn't get pregnant. I wasn't allowed to take it this cycle as I ended up with 5 ruptured haemorrhagic cysts and a few other problems from where I'd over responded but I've met quite a few people on here who have got their BFP on their first cycle of Clomid

@humbags i have pcos and do ovulate too, but have quite long and irregular cycles. I got given clomid to help regulate my cycles and get a better sense of when ovulation will happen to time trying.

I tried temping last year but found it really stressful so stopped and went back to guess work 🙈

Fingers crossed for you!
