NHS Vs private- did I make the 'right' choice

Not sure if this post will make sense, but just wanted to talk with people who might understand!
Essentially last year like most our IVF was cancelled, after 6 months we looked at going private as I was low priority given my age which is completely understandable.
About a month before my private cycle was due to start I got a call from NHS hospital to say the CCG contract had changed and a new hospital was taking over NHS IVF services, their waiting list for initial appointment was only 2 months. I had a massive dilemma but the NHS only offered short protocol and we were dealing with MFI and I was otherwise 'healthy' and it was around the time a second lockdown was potentially coming in place so I decided to stick with the private clinic.
Our long protocol round was a failure, only 2 poor quality embryos and the consultant has decided to change my next protocol to short.
I've been kicking myself since then, if I had just waited a few months I could have got the same treatment with NHS! We only get 1 free round here which I've lost now obviously.
I keep telling myself I have no way of knowing what would have happened but I can't shake the feeling. My worry with short protocol is we won't get many eggs, my consultant does think the poor embryo quality is more likely a sperm issue but 4/11 of my eggs were immature or abnormal so says it's possible there are egg quality issues too.
Did anyone else ever go through anything like this? Xx

Hi, I haven't been in this exact same scenario, but I would say that you need to remind yourself that in going private you made the best decision you could with the information you had at the time. You haven't done anything "wrong", it's just that new info has arisen now that you couldn't possibly have known. Honestly, please keep reminding yourself of this and be kind to yourself, or you'll drive yourself mad - I've been there.

Also, my first round was quite poor - eight eggs retrieved and only four fertilised. Got one blast. Second round was much better - fourteen eggs retrieved, twelve were mature and ten fertilised. Got five blasts. For the second round I added growth hormone in stims, improved diet and upped the vitamins. You can't read too much into your first round in my view.

@msgloria thank you!! Yes planning to up my veg and protein intake this round during stims- I have a massive sweet tooth though and do need to try and cut the sugar a bit more! Xx
