Weight loss for fertility treatment

Anyone been given a weight loss target for fertility treatment? I've lost 5kg since January 1st. BMI was 32, now 30.7. my doctor wants me to lose 3-4kg per month and get down to BMI 27.5 in 2 months. So another 8kg. Obviously, I'd love to lose 8kg in 2 months but it seems possible but a bit of a stretch.

Anyone had similar? It's not directly for IVF either. They want to try me on clomid for late ovulation for a few months once I lose the weight.

I'm surprised at that, especially for clomid rather than IVF! I thought NHS guidelines were that while they would ideally like women to have a BMI below 25 (for best chances of success); if you meet the other NHS criteria, they will provide you with fertility treatment providing your BMI is below 30 (so overweight rather than obese - insisting on a BMI of 27.5 seems a bit random).

I also don't like that they have given you such a tight timescale - I've found personally if I lose weight too quickly, I just put it back on again eventually because generally only deprivation style diets work for quick weight loss and they are hard to stick to long term.

Thanks @IamnotwhouthinkIam. I'm not sure how strict they'll be. Weirdly, I lost a kg over night (water?) so it makes it a bit easier!

Good luck @CycleGirl20 . I had to reduce my carb and sugar intake to get below BMI 30 for treatment - it took me a while though, hopefully you manage it more quickly/easily!

Oh, and yes I would guess a kg loss overnight is more likely to be water unfortunately. I would think it would normally take at least 4-5 days to lose a kg (or in my case more like a week or two!)

Thanks both. Frustratingly it was water weight, meaning my weight loss last week was zero. Bit frustrated by it now. I'm trying super hard and doing alternate day fasting, plus fasting until the evening on my week day non-fast days. I don't think I have much wiggle room really to cut more out! It might not look like that from the outside though if my weight loss is only 1/2kg per week!

The doctor gave me metaformin to try to help me, but I've not been taking it because I don't want to get stuck on some drugs that I can't come off without loosing weight. I'm a bit of a funny case as I had multiple fibroids which is unusual for my age. They could grow back, so the doctors are keen for me to use my post op down time from TTC to get some of the extra KGs off. That will give me the best chance of getting pregnant in the window of opportunity following surgery before any fibroids regrow.

I also say this whilst my other half is eating chocolate pudding out of a salad bowl several nights a week! It's quite unfair what some people can get away with! People think he must be more active than me, but he is not by far.
