Manchester IVF recommendations

Hi All,

First time posting on here after a long time reading! It's looking like my husband and I are going to need IVF after a few years of trying and investigations done, mostly privately, showing I probably have tube problems. Rest of investigations ok. We had these tests done at Manchester Fertility Clinic and found the whole experience there ok except didn't really take to the consultant!

We've waited ages for our referral to NHS to progress and now have appt for baseline tests which I've already had so we're trying to push forward to an NHS transfer to a private clinic for IVF.

I wondered if anyone had any experience of doing this and what the process was like? And also if anyone had any feedback of the other IVF clinics in and around Manchester? CARE seems to have to good reviews on Google.

Struggling to keep from being overwhelmed with it all. Thanks in advance x

I went with Create (Birmingham) but they also have a Manchester clinic - I met a few of the consultants/anaesthetists from there when they covered some annual leave at my clinic on a Sunday egg collection and they were lovely

@leenybobs86 I’m with St Mary’s but NHS but I’m a member of Manchester Fertility on Facebook, you might get a broader experience on there.

I would highly recommend Care Manchester we have had IVF there and they were brilliant x

FingersXssd83 · 14/02/2021 21:11

CARE are brilliant. We were successful with them on our 4th cycle. Highly recommend them.

@Mancbear88 if you don’t mind me asking how long was your wait from referral for an appointment - I’ve been referred to st Mary’s but no indication how long the wait will be just got a letter from booking team that given the current climate resources are being directed away from routine care and someone will be in touch and not to contact them Confused
I have no idea what that means but fear it will be a very long wait 😭
Many thanks in advance!

Mancbear88 · 11/07/2021 17:48

@MFHRC I can’t remember I’ve tried looking back in my phone but I can’t find any messages. However my first referral was pre pandemic anyway so is probably different. I don’t remember it being too long though.
There’s not any delays in treatment at the moment though so hopefully will be quick!

MFHRC · 11/07/2021 17:52

@Mancbear88 I hope so too! Thanks for responding, appreciate it!
I may make myself wait a few more weeks and then call the booking team if I don’t hear anything - I don’t particularly mind waiting a reasonable time it’s just the not knowing so if they could just give me even a rough idea of time frame I think I would feel better! We shall see!

Can anyone give me an idea how much ivf cost in care Manchester ?

BeachPeach · 10/01/2022 19:52

@MFHRC would recommend being on the front foot with St Mary’s; we’re not having treatment there but my OH’s sperm is stored there and we’ve found them very difficult to communicate with and actually really unhelpful. I think they’re having IT issues on top of Covid pressures which are both understandable but we made no progress at all until we made a complaint via the PALS service which I felt awful for doing but which did eventually progress things after 6 months of waiting! Be prepared to have to do a lot of the admin and chasing up yourself and don’t be afraid to put your foot down. Good luck 🤞

Hi @BeachPeach thanks for your message really appreciate it!
I think I definitely know what you mean it's already been quite the journey - have had a video consultation which is not really what I wanted but hey ho and now will prob a good few months wait for a face-to-face appointment in the IVF clinic and then another wait after that to start treatment but trying to keep positive and optimistic! Hope everyone else is doing okay

KateAlva · 23/07/2022 22:14

Hi all, is anyone else waiting for treatment with St. Mary's in Manchester? Apparently they're so busy they can't phone back so I'm wondering do people typically experience delays with this hospital?

Mancbear88 · 26/07/2022 21:29

@KateAlva I've not had any delays but the communication is terrible. I’ve had to chase up a few times. They booked me in pretty quick though

KateAlva · 22/08/2022 22:13

Another month another set of anxiety kicking in. I'm back to square one of waiting for a phone call which so far hasn't come. I'm day 2 of my cycle and nothing - last month they called me back on day 10 (so I'd obviously missed the chance for the month) and the receptionist told me it can take 3 weeks to get a call back to start treatment. I'm at the end of my tether, all day I'm watching my phone, rejecting other calls, snapping at my partner, can't focus at work, I value the NHS but the anxiety this is causing me is getting to be too much now😢
