(Possibly stupid) question about AFC

I’m new to all of this. Could someone tell me- is the AFC count the sum of the count of each ovary or the average of them? (IYSWIM). Not sure how to interpret my results..

It’s the total amount they count - eg if it’s 7 it might be 3 on one and 4 on the other. But it varies each month.

It’s the sum of the follicles counted in both the ovaries. It can vary a little slightly but tends to stay fairly constant across cycles, it reduces with age.

Ahh thanks so much ladies. How much does it vary would you say?

@Bizawit mine varied from 7 one cycle to 3 the next. So I think you can have quite a difference month to month!

@ohsheglows I wouldn’t consider that to be a very high intercycle variability. My AFC is 34 (no PCOS just very high), I would be astounded if someone switched between 3 one cycle and 34 the next. There would be no point in measuring AFC as a marker of IVF success at all if there was no consistency.

@Bizawit what results did you get?
