Hello
I am looking for people's experiences of having a hsg. My period has arrived today, a few days early so I will ring tomorrow and book hsg as advised. I take clomid...this was round 6 with no success. My consultant has told me not to take it this month before hsg but not sure why? Has anyone else been told this? Worried not taking it is going to mess up my cuclrs again.

Thanks x

Hi I had a HSG in December.

It can be quite uncomfortable so I’d definitely recommend taking painkillers about an hour or so before you have it done and make sure you can have it before ovulation if possible.

I don’t have any experience with Clomid I’m afraid but it may have something to do with the fact that you’re not supposed to have intercourse from the first day of your period until you have the HSG, could you ask your Dr about it?

Good luck!

This type of tubal x-ray is quite a useful test to have done as it can show deformities inside the tubes that cannot be accessed easily by other methods.

It should not be painful particularly if the dye is injected both carefully and slowly. The most uncomfortable part I found about it was the speculum used.

I was given some painkillers to take beforehand. Do bring along a sanitary towel with you because that dye will come out afterwards. If someone can drive you home post this too so much the better.

Hi there

I just wanted to reassure you a bit as I heard some horror stories before my Hycosy and was really worried. I found it a little uncomfortable but not painful. I took 2 paracetamol an hour before so would advise that. I know it can be bad, but it's not always.

Can't chip in on the Chlomid I'm afraid. Maybe it's because it's supposed to make you ovulate, but it would depend when in your cycle you're having the HSG I suppose. Usually it's shortly after your period so they can be sure you're not pregnant.

Good luck!

Mine was painful and unpleasant and felt intensely hot (vaso vagal according to the consultant) . I had a drink and sweet snack for after during my recovery in the car before I drove home! I was pleased I had this. They gave me pants and. Maternity towel.

Advise getting someone to drive you home. Take all day off work. You can't have have hsg if you have conceived so there is no purpose in taking clomid that cycle. They will do pregnancy test.

A consultant radiologist did mine. It was clear both sides. It was worth it! Good luck op!

Mine wasn't too bad but to be honest i wouldn't want it again. The worst part for me was the dye going in, it was an intense burning period cramp that got worse and worse and then it was over. Don't mean to worry you as everyone's experience and pain tolerance is different. It's worth having it done though as handy to know if there are any tube issues.
