Hey ladies,

Quick question I am due my first IVF appointment In Wales Fertility Institue Cardiff.

when I got referred a year and a half ago my weight was fine, now it's 30.6 I am on a diet before I go and my first appointment is 9th February which is virtually,

Has anyone gone for IVF and their weight been to high? What happens?

I'm worrying myself silly.

They delay the start of treatment til you get it down.

Yes agree with pp, if you have NHS funding, your treatment likely won't be able to start until you have got your BMI below 30 due to the guidelines (if you are funding IVF privately, clinics are usually more flexible about higher BMI's, although they prefer below 35).

However if it is a virtual consultation they will have no way of knowing your BMI (as visually 30/31 isn't that different from 28/29). So if they ask your weight, I would knock off half a stone or so, but make sure you get below 30 BMI by your first physical appointment as they will likely weigh you then.

@IamnotwhouthinkIam thank you, I only have 3lb to loose in roughly 2 weeks until my first face to face appointment so i know I can do it, I have just been worrying myself.

do you know if I am over do I have to go to the bottom of the list again?

Depends on the trust but you are not that over so I think if more likely you’d get delayed a month

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/01/2021 20:18

@amylouwilliams, I found reducing my carbohydrate and sugar intake slightly while upping my veg a bit (to compensate so I didn't get as hungry) helped me get below the BMI limit. 3 pounds in 2 weeks is very doable imo.

Agree with pp - I don't think you'd go to the bottom of the list if you are only a bit over (because it shouldn't take you very long to lose), they will just likely delay starting your treatment till the next month so you can get below the limit.

Hi @amylouwilliams I'm dealing with this right now, I have a gyno appointment soon to then get put on the waitlist for IVF, I've just started Keto in the past month and have lost some weight my BMI wavers between 30.3 and 30.6 now but I'm hoping to get it down before my next appointment! 3lbs shouldn't be too hard - you've got this! Sending you some positive vibes ☺️

amylouwilliams · 01/02/2021 14:59

@conall

thank you hun, I got everything crossed for your appointment aswell.

I'm on day 3 of strict diet and more water intake, my mindset is so good at the moment, so I am hoping the weight comes off 🤷🏼‍♀️

it's all so exciting isn't it

Xx

@amylouwilliams what diet are you on if you don't mind me asking? I started Keto a couple of weeks ago and it's definitely helping however I had a slip up last night and had spaghetti and meatballs - that's the first time I've broke my diet but I was getting down and just needing some carbs!

Hi @amylouwilliams - just wanted to say, I'm also waiting on referral for WFI - 15 months and counting at age 35 Confused Just wondered how you've found them so far? They keep telling me I'm about to be contacted (for the last 6 months), but last week said March/ April... (why they can't give me a firm answer is so frustrating). I ask because we're so desperate we're now thinking of going private.

amylouwilliams · 01/02/2021 20:57

@MotherOfShihTzus

hey hun. I was referred in august 2019, and was supposed to have my first appointment in the March 2020- it was all booked in and then COVID happened, so they cancelled. I did see that their waiting list time had changed to 15 months instead of the original 6, but the whole of last year I heard nothing, which I did find strange as I knew they were open, but due to me shielding I wasn't in a rush for treatment anyway. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I was under them a few years ago when I was a lot younger, I'm 28 now. And the first time around I found them useless, so I am hoping this time is different. They couldn't find me on the waiting list, time just kept changing. and when actually going through IVF they wouldn't take into consideration anything that I requested .

I have got my first virtual appointment next week so I'll let you know how I get on hun and if they have changed.

Which clinic will you be attending, Cardiff or neath?

Thank you so much @amylouwilliams I'm so sorry their treatment of you has been poor in the past - we can only hope things have improved since then. It's your body so they have to listen to you.

I'm in touch with CRGW; and to be honest, all the contact and everything so far has been fantastic, which make us feel more comfortable going with them even with the cost x

MotherOfShihTzus · 02/02/2021 11:41

I was referred to Cardiff - maybe 2 months behind you it looks like, but have heard that they've merged the 2 clinics; I think treatment is happening in Neath for Cardiff referrals too x

amylouwilliams · 02/02/2021 12:39

@MotherOfShihTzus

It's okay, I'm glad I can be a help.
I'll let you know how I do get on with the clinic this time around. I did hear that the 2 clinics have merged aswell, but when I went through it last time it was the same due to my cystic fibrosis I had to have the procedure in neath.

where is the clinic your looking at going privately based please? And what is the cost if you don't mind me asking?

@amylouwilliams best of luck with this round!!

CRGW is in Llantrisant, it's a purpose built place in a business park type area. So far, so good! X
