Egg collection

I know we're given a rough timescale of day 14 of your cycle to do the egg collection but is there usually any flexibility in this? Is it always day 14 or does it depend on certain factors like how you respond to the drugs for example? When do the doctors usually tell you when it will be? A few days in advance?

I'm just getting ready to start my first cycle so not sure how things actually go, but in my treatment schedule it says they can't say when it'll be but they'll give two days notice.

Day 14 might be an average but it should absolutely be tailored to you depending on the size of your follicles and your oestogen / LH level. I've had egg collections day 11, day 13 and day 17, just responded differently each time. You'll get an idea of when it might be (ie the Dr might say "looks like the end of the week") but you won't know for sure which day until 2/3 days before when the Dr decides at a scan that you are ready for trigger and egg collection. Good luck!

Ah, thank you @NewSew00. I did ask my clinic but their answer was a bit vague. That makes it so much clearer!

@pixelflower I'm about to start my first cycle too. Good luck! xx

Thank you @bigbluesea good luck to you too 😊🤞

I had my 2 collections roughly when i would have ovulated d11 (short cycles). It isn't confirmed until a couple days beforehand with follicle sizes and hormones being checked. The hcg triggers are given 36 hrs before collection as a firm time.

You'll need recovery time after egg collection of 48 hrs generally.

Good luck!

It depends on when the largest follicle (or number of follicles reach a certain size - for some clinics it can be 14mm for others it's 18mm) then it usually a couple of days later. My egg collections have generally between cycle day 12 and 14

bigbluesea · 31/01/2021 00:03

Thank you @indub and ivfbeenbusy. I never realised you could have the egg collection earlier than day 14!

You would usually have your scans done on alternate days from approx day 8, most are ready on the 3rd scan (day 12) so egg collection would be day 14, some clinics book it in advance especially those offering 'shoe box' IVF where it's one size fits all. I have however seen plenty of women ready on the 1st and others take 5/6, it's nothing to worry about we are just all different. If your clinic don't book it in advance you tend to get 48 hours notice, most people are back to normal the day after and no medical reason to need time off work for eg, beyond the day

Hi

I had egg collection today was 22 eggs collected they said due to ohss risk my embryos will need to be frozen I was very emotional to start with as I thought my time was finally here but reading into it more it’s the best thing to do and sometimes improve chances I’m just so worried I will be unwell with ohss

Franca123 · 07/10/2021 17:04

I also had 22eggs collected and all frozen due to risk of OHSS. I felt horrendous and freezing was definitely best. It allowed me time to recover emotionally and physically before a FET. Best of luck.
