Ivf and smear tests

Hi, I am due to start ivf next month and I've just had a letter saying my smear test is due. Obviously it has run out from when the clinic last checked it. Does anyone know if the smear test can make the Ivf less successful? The nurse at the clinic said she wasn't sure as they are still removing cells from your cervix. Any ideas? Thanks you so much!

I don’t think they can but also the ivf clinic won’t let you do the cycle without being up to date on your smear anyway

Hi @Goonbear. It's totally safe. Your poor cervix will get knocked around by the egg collection and embryo transfer more than a cervical smear will do anyway. As @LouiseTrees says they won't proceed with ivf if you don't have it -- because it would be awful if you were noted to have a lesion when already pregnant and the ivf hormones might have made it worse.

Thank you both so much! 😊👌
