Male factor - supplement suggestions?

Hi all,

We have been trying to conceive for over a year and from the tests we have had so far it points to make factor issues. It seems to be mainly count (6m per ml), most recent morthology was OK at 5% and motility is around 70%. Things seem OK with me.

We are considering going for fertility treatment in the summer but want to give ourselves the best chance in the meantime.

We have cleaned up our diet from caffine/sugar/alcohol for the past 6 months and my husband has been taking chinese hers for 5 months as well as a multi vit including coq10, and a high dose vit c, omega 3 and vit e. I have also been in a multi vit and ubiquinol and chines herbs.

Really just want to know if anyone has had any sucess with male over the counter fertility pills that we can possibly try, I seen a lot of good reviews about fertilisan m online. Grateful for any advice on these types of products (good or bad) that people could share to see if there are any ways we can boost our chances before the summer.

Thanks in advance!

Keeping his bits cool is a good idea too after watching the Rhod Gilbert documentary.

Loose boxers were recommended.

Also if he cycles not to do do.

Sorry that’s not a supplement suggestion 🙄😂

My husband has been using Fertilsan m - he'll be retested next week but he's also had treatment for a varicocele, which obviously will have had an impact. But I had very good things about the brand too, which is why we opted for them

@Bluebells1983 my OH has been taking selenium and L-carnitine as well as everything you have mentioned above. We didn’t see an improvement in count or morphology specifically but we did in motility - your motility is actually pretty good.

My husband is also using Fertilisan M, after lots of research it seemed to be the best options so he uses that along with some extra vitamins already mentioned. He used it during our 2nd and 3rd rounds of ICSI to have our DD, and has now started using it again as we embark on our journey in hopes of a second.
I have started using the womens version Fertil F this time.

Avoiding heat to the area can help as heat damages sperm, my husband has had to give up his much loved baths!!

The Rod Gilbert documentry on male fertility/infertility was a good watch, its not talked about enough.

Good luck xxx

My partner was recommended by fertility clinic to use both Impryl and Proxeed on alternating days (we are going for ICSI in a few months time).

Galgal15 · 13/05/2021 22:55

Hi @nancywhitehead, if you don't mind me asking, what issues are they trying to improve for your parrner?

Very low sperm count (
Porridgeislife · 16/05/2021 07:35

We were recommended by our clinic for my husband to take Proxeed Plus and Optibac probiotic.

Also, we were advised he should ejaculate every 3 days in normal times & then during IVF every 2 days, and every day in the 3 days leading up to egg collection. Seemed to work, we had 100% ICSI fertilisation and only 1 embryo drop off with very low morphology.

thislittlebird · 16/05/2021 08:41

We have been recommended to take Impryl by two separate doctors. Haven’t seen improvement yet, hoping we will at the next test when it’s been over 3 months (the time the sperm need to refresh).

As others have said, the Rhod Gilbert documentary was great.

@Bluebells1983 70% motility is great, we have 9% but a higher count.

Bluebells1983 · 16/05/2021 19:52

Thanks girls. I hope the supplements work their magic for you all. There does seem to be a lot of good supporting evidence to suggest that they will.

We have actually been seeing a Chinese medical lady and my husband is on cordycep mushrooms now which she recommended, so hoping they do the trick.... Will wait and see

Just agreeing with @thefishthatcouldwish about keeping cool..
My DH has been told stopping taking hot baths is one of the most important things he can do.

Hey! Is there any update on this please? My partner had his varicoceles embolised last week and we are waiting 3 months for the results but his numbers are really low across the board. Thanks x
