Need a progesterone (prescription)

Hi! I’m four weeks pregnant after a round of IVF. My clinic told me to stop the progesterone pessaries when I got my BFP which makes me really worried. I’ve heard you normally take it at least until 12 weeks. I’ve had a bit of spotting too which makes me even more reluctant to go off it. Does anyone know how I could get a prescription for it? Any help would be much appreciated x

@FernTaylor Congratulations! I thought after BFP you take pessaries for 12 weeks too...although not been in this position to know for sure.

I guess you’re having a 6 week scan at your clinic so will still be under their care at the moment? I think it’s best you call them, I’m sure they can arrange for you to collect a prescription or the medicine itself (or send the medicine to you if they use a delivery company).

Yes my clinic keep you on it for 12 weeks too. I know a few that stop it at 9 weeks but not heard of any that tell you to stop it after a BFP.

Congratulations.
I would ask your clinic in the first instance.
If they can't /won't help then maybe a private prescription? I got progesterone very cheaply from Fertility2U recently, strangely the cost on the invoice was less than they quoted in their online chat. They did next day delivery.

Congratulations! My GP prescribed them for me. She was very supportive and clued up about IVF, and I know not all doctors are, but might be worth asking? Saying that your clinic should provide a prescription even if it’s not their usual protocol, extra progesterone has no side effects and if it will help ease your stress levels then they should be supportive. All the best

My clinic said to stop at 9W but that if I had extra and wanted to ween of I could (i did and was completely off by 10w). Others on my bfp ivf thread were told to stop between 7&12 though those who had frozen transfers are all 12+. I have heard that there is evidence that you can stop after a bfp in fresh cycles and that some clinics do this. However, I know I would have felt really paranoid about this so I would 100% ask your clinic to prescribe especially given the spotting. I'm sure your clinic know what they are doing but if it's making you anxious tell them. Congratulations on your bfp. X

My clinic stopped mine as soon as I got pregnant. They keep frozen cycles on them for 12 weeks.
