adenomyosis? IVF

I am was wondering if anyone else has been in a similar position? I'm 40 with one embryo in the freezer. Docs at our private clinic suspected adenomyosis on ultrasound which was confirmed after we paid for a private MRI. It's fairly small and localised, but it is there. I've had 2 months now of GnRH prostap (which i HATE. headaches, mega hot flushes, grumpy all the time lol). I dont know what happens after I've finished with the prostap though? Could i go straight into some time of hormone replacement? our consultant is v nice, but not very communicative :-/

Hi @busybee2334 can I ask how you got on? I’m going to start the same process soon as well.

busybee2334 · 29/01/2021 14:37

@OhPeanuts hiya! Ive agreed to do a 3rd month of the Prostap. I was dead against it, but my scan this week revealed that the injections have done an amazing job of reducing the adenomyosis (and a little endometrioma I have too), so one more month might clear it almost completely. Sob. lol. 4 more weeks of night sweats it is! What are you getting treatment for?

OhPeanuts · 29/01/2021 15:27

Oh wow 3 months! How are you feeling on it? Is it just hot flushes bothering you? At least it’s winter, just imagine having this during the “bbq summers” we get haha!

So I’m yet to start the prostap...I will have it on my next period and that may be in a week or so but my body is unpredictable!

I wasn’t even aware I had Adenomyosis until yesterday when I had a scan at a new clinic. My old clinic never mentioned anything about it so I don’t know if this is new or just wasn’t mentioned or spotted! I have read some awful things about how implantation is less likely and miscarriages far more likely so I’m feeling quite worried now going into a transfer 🙁. I feel like it’s all up against me even more than usual. However it’s good to hear yours seems to have improved after being on prostap! Keep me up to date 😊

Do you have the Adenomyosis symptoms like heavy bleeding and pain etc? I feel that I don’t really experience that but then again maybe my pain tolerance is just high?!! Don’t know what to think

busybee2334 · 30/01/2021 12:09

@OhPeanuts I have had zero symptoms of adenomyosis! although i have suspected a couple of weird ?failed implantation pain things in the past which i didn't bother to follow up:-/ but mostly entirely normal painless periods for the last 26 years. My NHS scan had incorrectly diagnosed a fibroid but apparently they're easily confused on ultrasound so I'm pleased I switched to private tbh. I'm pleased too that this is the last month of prostap cos the mad temp changes are very annoying and sometimes embarrassing. Just yesterday I had to run out the chemist while tearing my coat and scarf off. I do have a lovely supportive husband though who was happy to let me throw these items at him while I sweated through my dress in front of a group of people lol. The dramatic effect on reducing the adenomyosis makes it worth it for now though. Good luck and lemme know how you get on!

Think of yourself as superwoman ripping clothes off in the car 😆

Same here, mine are irregular as I have PCOS but they’re not that painful or heavy so I wasn’t expecting this!

Will do, let me know when your transfer meds start 😊

OhPeanuts · 02/03/2021 17:47

How did you get on @busybee2334? Did you get to have your transfer? 😊

I think the prostap did the trick for me too, starting all the rest of the meds now.

busybee2334 · 02/03/2021 17:55

@ohpeanuts Yep seems the prostap kicked the adeno and endo's asses (for now) and ive also responded really well to oestrogen so taking prog too now and having the transfer on Friday! Endometrium was 3mm last Tues and 15mm today (!) which apparently is quite good??. Suddenly it's all going very quickly lol. Are you just starting on estradiol now? and how did you get on with the prostap?

OP posts:
OhPeanuts · 03/03/2021 07:53

@busybee2334 that’s good news! Good luck for Friday, I hope it all goes well! I think 15 is good, I think my clinic said above 8 or something like that is good so you’re nice a s cushioned in there 👍

I was ok on prostap, mostly just very tired al the time and I had some headaches and sudden sweats which was not very nice. The constant fatigue was the worst part for me. I felt like my head was fuzzy all the time so made work really hard.

Yes I’m starting the estradiol today finally!

busybee2334 · 03/03/2021 15:38

@ohpeanuts Oh hoorah! You'll be pleased that the hot flushes and headaches will come to an end then. Although, actually, I found myself still a little bit headachey on the estradiol :-/ It's progress anyway though. Best of luck with the estradiol! and keep me updated on the future XX

@busybee2334 hello how are you? How did your transfer go? Don’t feel like you have to answer if you prefer not to 😊. I was just thinking of you!

My transfer should be this week unless something goes wrong at the last minute so keeping my fingers crossed.

busybee2334 · 17/03/2021 16:47

@ohpeanuts Hiya again! The transfer went fine. It was painless and kinda quick and easy. Then i had 10 days on Oestrogen and Progesterone which was an emotional whirlwind for sure. Then - yesterday, big fat negative :-(
I had already decided/realised that it was going to be negative due to having no symptoms except daily headaches. But, still not a nice phone call to have to receive. So this week, we're drinking wine (lots) and thinking about our options. Gahhhhh....
Did you get a date for your transfer?

OP posts:
OhPeanuts · 17/03/2021 18:27

@busybee2334 oh no I’m so sorry! This process is horrendously difficult. I hope you feel ok? I hope you’re enjoying all the wine and taking lots of hot baths and eating some junk! What are your plans now, will you do another transfer or looking to cycle again? Xx

I did, it’s tomorrow so I’m feeling a bit apprehensive now. I just feel like something is bound to go wrong! Trying to stay positive though and at least I can enjoy a day off haha.

busybee2334 · 18/03/2021 11:17

@ohpeanuts Oh exciting! hope the transfer goes brilliantly. We got a lovely little scan image of the embryo in there (albeit temporarily as it turns out), so make sure you get one too!
We only had the one embryo :-/ I did mild stim and though they got 2 eggs which both fertilised only one made it to Day3.
So, not sure what we're gonna do. We were planning to move back home (several 100s of miles away) this spring so may just take a little break to have a think. I'll be thinking of you, let me know how you get on! X

OP posts:
OhPeanuts · 21/03/2021 21:43

@busybee2334 transfer went ok thank you, now just waiting to see what happens!

Oh I see, so sorry to hear you’d have to go through it all again from scratch plus a move makes it more complicated but perhaps a break and new surroundings will help on the emotional side 😊. Keep me up to date! Xx

busybee2334 · 07/04/2021 14:11

@OhPeanuts hi there missus :-) how did the horrible 2 week wait pan out? Crossing fingers and toes you got good news! X

OP posts:
OhPeanuts · 07/04/2021 15:29

Hi @busybee2334 !! Nice to hear from you! Not good news I’m afraid, it was a negative as expected. I’m back on the prostap for another try as I have a few more frozen to transfer but not feeling very optimistic. Just trying to keep some hope going.

How about you? Have you started moving yet? Any decisions on whether you will restart? 😊 xx

busybee2334 · 07/04/2021 17:57

@ohpeanuts Oh balls! I'm disappointed for you. And more Prostap, agh. Maybe that'll do the trick. And summertime is just more optimistic generally isn't it. Heck, sorry to hear about that. Well my sister is just about due with her miracle baby who happened to be her 2nd frozen transfer. So there's hope yet :-) We're moving in a week. While continuing to work full time. So it's all fun and games here lol. Looking forward to being an auntie though (and nearby to family for once) so things are generally looking up. Please let me know how your next transfer goes! And bestest good luck to you. XX

OP posts:
OhPeanuts · 08/04/2021 09:45

@busybee2334 ahh how lovely for your sister 😊. Yep I guess we can hold on to some hope! And I’m feeling loads better with a bit of sun as you say.

Gosh no idea how you’re managing a move and full time working! Sounds tough but you’ll get there and soon be relaxing in your lovely new home 🏡

I will update you on the next transfer 😊 xx

OhPeanuts · 26/01/2022 12:57

@busybee2334 hello how are you doing?

Thought I’d add a little update here for anyone who comes across this post in the future as I know I scoured the internet for people with adenomyosis and their outcomes and there wasn’t much out there. I had a successful second transfer last year after another month of Prostap and delivered my baby this year. I hope this gives anyone with adenomyosis some hope that the treatment can help. As a reminder I had zero pregnancies before ivf and this journey took 4 years (PCOS, fibroids, adenomyosis for me and male factor issues from my husbands side).

VenusStarr · 26/01/2022 14:13

Congratulations @OhPeanuts this gives me hope. My situation is different (recurrent losses) but I did a kitchen sink protocol and still miscarried, so my next step is to ask about long down regulation to tackle the adenomyosis as we've pretty much ruled everything else out. Thanks for coming back and sharing x

LongWayRound1980 · 26/01/2022 15:46

@ohpeanuts wowee fabulous news, congrats 👏🏼 how lovely. We're only just now back on the ivf train again (how has that been almost a year?!). Various delays to so with house move and work and blah, BUT stims start today in fact so looking forward to an interesting Feb. Your good news is exactly the positive prod I've been needing 😀 Hope all is well with your new little one and hope you have a nice calm UNeventful 2022! Xx

No idea why my user name seems to have changed!? I thought I was Busybee2334? Hmm will investigate. Anyway!

Thank you! @VenusStarr definitely worth asking about long down reg in my opinion. I saw a before and after ultrasound of my uterus and could see a difference in the thickness of the fundal area which is apparently where embryos implant so I felt like it gave me somewhat of a chance. I did one FET cycle after another with no break in between. Best of luck with your next cycle. Come back and give me an update!

@busybee2334 thank you! I know time just flies by doesn’t it. Quite terrifying!
Wow you are starting stims today! I have been meaning to post on here for ages now and finally got around to it today so that’s great timing Grin
Wishing you all the luck with this cycle, I have everything crossed for you! Add an update if you get a chance later Smile

poppet131 · 26/01/2022 18:59

@OhPeanuts Thanks for updating and congratulations!! I have mild adeno and suspected endo and male factor. We’re going down the ivf route this spring if no bfp by then (secondary infertility). Can I ask which fertility clinic you were with and did you make any dietary changes (cutting down gluten/dairy) ahead of your successful FET?
