IVF - logistical time off work

Hi,

I know everyone is probably different in their exact course of a monthly cycle of IVF. But can anyone provide a rough idea of how many times I'd need to visit the clinic?

Taking time off work is very hard and I'm trying to work out if I'd need to be scanned every day for a week or ten days etc.

Thanks

For me, after the initial testing, once i started i was scanned every 2-3 days over a 14 day period. Then egg collection (which i needed 2 days to recover) but if i had had a desk job i would have been able to work the next day. Then you'll need time again for transfer. On my milage forms i did 10 trips in total for round one.

My clinic offer 7am appointments to help working people. I'm fortunate that one good thing to have come from covid for me is that my restaurant is closed so i don't need to worry about getting into work. Especially as my clinic is 1hr away from home!

Hello, i'm not sure if it depends on what protocol you're on...i'm doing mild/short protocol. You have scans on day 6, 8 and 10 of your cycle to check follicle growth. Generally always have a blood test too. I'm usually at the clinic for around 45 mins.

Egg collections have been on day 12 and you'll need a day off work for this and possibly day after depending on how you're feeling. I have only taken the day of the procedure off, but i'm WFH. If you have a fresh embryo transfer, you'd need another day off presuming you don't want to return to work afterwards. If you're having a frozen transfer, there will be some more short appointments leading up to it to check lining.

Thanks so much that's hugely helpful for me to wonder which month would be the best fit with time off work!! Thanks

It very much depends - I had to go for scans every other day during my most recent cycle

It really depends on your clinic. Mine do a scan cd 2 or 3 and you start stims the same day. Then on day 9 or 10 I think you'd start having scans every other day until the a follicle has reached a certain size (for me that's been at the first scan) then transfer 2-3 days after. Whole day of egg collection off and it depends on the day after. I had mild ohss so took the next day off and the day after as wfh (in hindsight I should have stayed in bed then too).
