Ivf clinic - FET

Hi everyone
Just looking some advice as feeling quite down.

Currently in the middle of long protocol frozen cycle. First FET ended in a chemical pregnancy in September.

Got a call from our clinic to say that they will be closing and no further treatment and couldn’t say when they will be resuming treatment again. Absolutely devastated as we are just one week away from transfer.

I called and called to try and get some advice and spoke with them about the possibility of us carrying on with this cycle but paying privately. The lady I spoke with said that it could be possible that the dr ( who has clinics elsewhere) would be happy to take us on. I know that everything with a cycle is precisely timed, however am not sure if all hope is now lost with this cycle ( I am still taking estrogen tablets).

I know that there are a lot more important things going on in the world right now, and that the staff in the clinic are being depoloyed elsewhere to help with COVID, but I am really struggling to accept how we were so close and now everything has to be stopped

The clinic doesn’t open again until Monday and I am praying that they will let us continue and pay privately , if anyone has any similar experience I would love your advice, and If anyone knows timescale wise ( how much time we do have before a cycle having to be cancelled altogether) I would really appreciate it

Sorry to hear this. Sending you a big hug!
This happened to us in the first lockdown.
We stopped meds, froze our embryos and continued a few months later.
Hopefully by April-May clinics will be more normal again. Xxx

@moneyonmymind I’m
so sorry this has happened to you ☹️ I think we were at the same hospital if I remember correctly. We were also cancelled during a FET on the day I had downreg bleed back in March. I did desperately call around a few private clinics at the time but no one was willing to take me on for that current cycle. I believe there’s quite a bit of bureaucracy involved in moving frozen embryos and it can take several weeks so ultimately we were told we would have to stop and start again. In the end we stayed in the same place as all the private clinics ended up closing too within a week or two (hopefully that won’t be the case this time). One thing is that last time they did prioritize people who had been cancelled during treatment to restart in the first cohort when they re-opened. Sending hugs and empathy and hope you manage to sort something out. X

I may still have the consent forms/ process for release of embryos somewhere if you need them. Feel free to PM me

thank you so much for your messages it is really just so frustrating!!!! I am still holding some hope that the clinic will take us on but transfer to private ( I will call tomorrow and hopefully find out one way or another)

@Lemongrass1 yes I remember speaking before! The clinic have been fantastic I just can’t believe our luck that they have had to close? Hfea website still says that clinics can still stay open so I’m not sure why ours has to close?

I feel better today and slightly more accepting that things may be on hold for now, I can’t help but try to “rush” things along, but we all know what with ivf and fertility things take a lot of time! Depending on the outcome tomorrow I may need those from you that is very very kind, but also part of me thinks that maybe it is time for a pause on this. The worlds a scary place right now. Hope everyone is taking care xx

@moneyonmymind glad you are feeling a bit better today. I hope you are able to find out one way or another tomorrow. Last time the staff were redeployed to other parts of the hospital which was why they closed so I assume it’s the same this time. They were quick to reopen as soon as they could but I’d definitely recommend asking if you would be able to be put on the priority telephone list to restart if you decide to pause for now. Unfortunately I did end up with covid the week I would have had the ET so for me the cycle in March/April was never going to happen whether the clinic stayed open or not. So it is worth considering whether you are willing to take the higher risk of a cancelled cycle (with the physical/financial toll that takes) when covid rates are so high at the moment. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you. X
