Second period after ivf late

Geep · 30/12/2020 20:20

Hi,

I had an unsuccessful cycle in nov. My period arrived 7dp5dt and seemed normal enough.

However im now waiting on my period arriving for the 2nd month after transfer. Id have expected it around the 27th. I know its not that late but i randomly decided to do a ovulation test today and while the line was faint there was a line. Could i be ovulating 2 weeks late? Could it be a side effect of the drugs?
I did a pregnancy test on 24th and was negative do pretty sure im not pregnant.
Thanks

Hi Geep. Sorry your cycle wasn’t successful. My second period was 9/10 days late. I think it is pretty normal for it to be late. My third was then a day or two early 🙈

Foreveraintenough · 30/12/2020 22:51

Same happens me after each round of ivf.

Geep · 30/12/2020 22:55

@AutumnHoping@Foreveraintenough thanks for replying.
Its good to know its normal. I guess the body has to recover after all uts been through. The line on the ovulation test was strange but maybe just one of those things. Ill check again tomorrow.

I’ve found I ovulate a week later after each ivf cycle so you could’ve been ovulating later.

willithappen · 31/12/2020 00:42

@Geep was it just an ovulation test you did? You are usually always going to get a second line on those. A positive is when the second line is as dark as the test line.
I always get two lines varying in strength all throughout my cycle.

Geep · 31/12/2020 19:25

@willithappen it was just an ovulation test. But was as dark as the control line and by yday evening was much lighter. Ive only ever before have got lines around ovulation time. By this evening there was no line. Assuming some people have higher levels of the chemical in their body which is why its picks it up all month? im thinking ive maybe ovulated 2 weeks late - did have some very very mild cramps a few days back which is unusual for me, however i have eaten my bodyweight in cheese and chocolate this week so that may be why haha. Guess i will know when af turns up.
I was told by my clinic they like to give a few months between cycles and at the time i was abit annoyed but can now see why as it might take a month or two for things to get back to normal.

Hi @Geep I’m in the same position as you with my fresh cycle in November, like you I had the bleed shortly after the transfer, it started on 8dp5dt while still on progesterone.

I have been tracking my cycle since. I normally ovulate on day 14–15, this time I ovulated on day 23, my oestrogen rise happened about 1 day late, but the LH surge was about a week later than it normally would be. I expect that this cycle will end up being around 37 days long, so about a week longer than I’d expect.

It seems to be pretty common to have a long cycle after IVF. I have been getting ovulation pain on both sides and I’m hoping I’ve released a few eggs, if I’m going to do that it will probably be the cycle after IVF. I hope you’ve been getting between the sheets! My plan is now to have FET every other cycle and try naturally inbetween.

Birdladybird · 31/12/2020 22:21

Same for me. Failed IVF in november, AF due 27th but i'm still waiting. Annoying as i'm waiting to start my next attempt!! I have all my drugs ready fo CD1!!

fullyloadednachoes · 01/01/2021 14:16

Hi! I had a failed cycle in nov, and my 2nd period after the failed cycle was delayed also. My cycles are usually 26/27days and it was delayed to 31days which is highly unusual for me. I think its because my ovulation was late because of all the drugs from the treatmemt the month before. The nurses said that can happen for some people.

Geep · 01/01/2021 22:19

Hi @Gardenlady543 i remember you from the nov thread. Think we had the same transfer date or very close. Im on cd32 amd still no sign but think i may be approx 2 weeks late if i was ovulating earlier in the week. You are hoping to do a fet in January werent u?
@Birdladybird@fullyloadednachoes glad to hear it quite common. Hopefully it willbe back on track for the 3rd month. Dont think ill be doing through another round untild april but would likw things to have settled down before then.

Hi @Geep yeah that’s still the plan, I have all the meds, day 1 will be when I get a period and I have all the meds. I’m a bit apprehensive as I had issues with the progesterone last time so we’ve been trying naturally as that would bypass these issues, but it’s never happened to date.

What’s your plan for the next cycle?

Pinkstars2501 · 02/01/2021 12:20

Annoying isn't it?! My first failed round I had my period before tww was up, then 89 days until my next one.
2nd failed and I'm now on day 50 of waiting. Had some spotting at day 40 which came to nothing (defo not pregnant either, of course I tested).

Sod's law says now that I've written that down, my period will show up.

Geep · 02/01/2021 19:44

@Gardenlady543 you got a rash from the progesterone was that right? What is the plan to prevent that happening next time?
I have to have a fresh cycle as we didn't have any to freeze. I had my review before christmas and was told the consent appt would be march time. Not sure how soon after that treatment will start, maybe 6-8 weeks. Feels so long away.
I had a very high number of immature eggs last time, so plan is to up the gonal f dose and be on it for a few days longer. Fingers crossed it works. I also asked about progesterone since my period arrived while i was on it, did it mean i wasnt absorbing it - i was using the gel. The alternative is injections, but i was told that if the cycle is unsucessful then they expect period to arrive 12 - 14days after egg collection. So what i was using is apparently fine.
@Pinkstars2501 they are both really long waits. Did your 3rd month period turn up on time. Or did it take a few months fpr things to settle down?

OP posts:
Gardenlady543 · 02/01/2021 20:00

@Geep yeah it was luckily just a rash on that occasion, but it had a temporal relationship with the progesterone and happened away from the source of the drug, which could mean I have progesterone hypersensitivity, that would be a massive issue for FET, people with this condition can go into anaphylaxis, so I have an epipen and I don’t know if I’ll react worse the next time. I’m a doctor and my specialist is happy to try again but only if I’m sensible about it. On top of that the early bleed I had means the progesterone also was unlikely to be adequate, so progesterone wise the whole situation is a nightmare. So I’m quite apprehensive, hoping it happens naturally to be honest.

Geep · 02/01/2021 20:22

@Gardenlady543 thats alot of extra stress ontop of an already very stressful situation. Hopefully you won't have any severe reactions. Well actually hopefully you can conceive naturally - ill keep everything crossed for you. How long have you been trying for?
We keep trying as well - just incase. Ive been trying for 2 years and had what i think was a chemical a year ago (the dates didnt add up and i bled for 5 weeks so not sure exactly how far along i was, but not enough to see anything in a scan). I also have a daughter who i conceived on the first month of trying 5 years ago. So maybe just maybe there is a small chance itll happen naturally. The only thing i know of that was wrong was i have an underactive thyroid but im on medicaton for that now.

Gardenlady543 · 02/01/2021 20:49

@Geep ah that’s good that you have a child already, that must be reassuring, so much of this is down to luck, even people who are told it can never happen seem to get lucky.

We tried for a year, I found each month was getting harder and harder. I’m 35, so looked into IVF as we’d like more than 1 child ideally and I’ve never had anything close to a pregnancy, not even a positive test.

Hopefully it will happen for me, either naturally or through IVF but definitely worth trying naturally alongside IVF. I’m not even sure I ovulated this cycle to be honest, I got the LH surge but I was supposed to have ovulated 4 days ago but haven’t had my temperature rise much so who knows!

Pinkstars2501 · 03/01/2021 00:01

@Geep my cycle has been all over the place since I started treatment last January to be honest. It was always regular before that.

Roo45 · 08/01/2021 15:39

I'm in the same position, failed first cycle in November and period within 48 hours of stopping progesterone but I'm 4 days late for this period...I can usually tell when AF is on its way but all the signs have been and gone...and I'm DEFINITELY not pregnant
Trying to schedule some time off for my next cycle but all my calculations are wrong after the current delay!

Birdladybird · 08/01/2021 19:11

Mine finally arrived after being 7 days late. I think its the Provames i take that delays it. Now onto round two!

Geep · 09/01/2021 16:49

Hi all.
Probably a bit silly of me but i wasn't expecting it to be late so has taken me by surprise.
Im currently on cd41 and still nothing (normally 27-29 length cycle). Think i may have only ovulated last week. So hopefuly it will arrive next week sometime.
Just something else to wait on i guess.

I'm on CD 38 now and usually average 31 days give of take a few days either side...for once actually hoping it shows up soon!
