A question about icsi

Hi,

Does anyone know why eggs still don't fertilise even with icsi? Sorry if it's a silly question but google isn't very helpful

@elsaesmeralda Because even though the sperm is inside the egg it needs then to progress to having have two small circles in the embryo. If it doesn't do that then it isn't fertilised and can't progress. Some eggs just don't fertilise - might not be mature enough etc xx

Thanks for the info. Reason I ask is I had 17 eggs collected of which 15 were mature and 11 fertilised with icsi. So I was just wondering if they were all mature why would they not all fertilise if some did. Sounds silly probably but I'm new to all this so still learning

Often a chromosome issue so regardless of IVF v ICSI it wouldn't have made a difference, ICSI just helps the sperm
get to where it needs to be

ivfbeenbusy · 05/12/2020 20:44

Usually down to egg quality. My first 2 cycles of IVF with ICSI less than 30% of my eggs fertilised. Once I changed IVF protocol and drugs and focussed on much fewer eggs which made them better quality the fertilisation jumped to 100%

See I'm worrying none of them are going to make it to day 5. I've got pcos so sure my eggs are crap as it is

How many out of those collected fertilised?

Roo45 · 05/12/2020 22:01

@elsaemeralda with 11 egg hopefully some should stick around! I had 5 eggs fertilised out of 7 and ended up with 2 poor quality embryos by day 5 and failed FET, I'm awaiting the follow up from my consultant and if he has any info that may be useful to you I'll post it here (but hopefully you won't need it!)xx

Roo45 · 05/12/2020 22:02

We did icsi too sorry I should have said

elsaesmeralda · 05/12/2020 22:11

@Roo45 I'm sorry about your failed fet. So hard isn't it this journey.
It's my first go and I thought the injections would be hard but now I'm just worrying about if they make it and then survive the freeze! And then I'll worry if it implants. Never ending. Also in pain from the collection so just feeling abit shitty.
That would be nice if you can do that xx

@elsaesmeralda that's a fantastic number to get fertilised!

elsaesmeralda · 06/12/2020 10:56

@willithappen I know and I'm so glad! Just can't help worrying but I'm sure we're all the same in this situation it's normal to be anxious
