Infertility & Music

I've recently found it really helpful listening to music from some artists who have been through infertility and create music about it.

One thing I've found really helpful at the moment is listening to the music of an American singer called Kina Grannis. She's been open with her struggles of infertility, ivf, and miscarriage and written songs about the experiences. Her husband (who performs as Imaginary Future) has just release some really poignant music about their loss earlier this year.

I can't think of anyone else that sings about this issue, so I thought I'd share and see if anyone else has come across music they have found really helpful during their infertility journey.

Interesting post! Thanks for these I will check them out. I don’t know anyone specifically singing about infertility but I do hear it in lots of songs. I have an ivf playlist!!!

Blue Skies - Noah and the whale
“This is a song for anyone with a broken heart. This is a song for anyone who can’t get out of bed. I’d do anything to be happy. But blue skies are coming and I know that it’s hard”

The Weeipies Lighting candles
“ Trying not to hope too hard
For what I want
Trying not to go too far
With all the dreaming
All the disappointment
So hard to handle
I'm still in the dark
Lighting candles”

Percy Falls - Fight on

“I see the lightning in your eyes
That pretty dress is a disguise
Don't let 'em tell you just smile girl
You fight on

Your heart is stronger than you realize
I feel it glowing like a fire
Don't play the game or play the part boy
You fight on

Fight on
Fight on when you feel alone
Fight on
Fight on we'll make our own

Don't look back oh just look forward
We'll make a history of our own
So throw your best at us we thank you
We'll fight on”

I also like ‘and then you’ Greg Laswell.

I am even finding meaning in Christmas music now. In particular Jonie Mitchell River and Greg Lake I believe in Father Christmas which I find particularly poignant facing into my 3rd Christmas since TTC with no baby or pregnancy.

“ They sold me a dream of Christmas
They sold me a silent night
And they told me a fairy story
'Till I believed in the Israelite
And I believed in father Christmas
And I looked to the sky with excited eyes
'Till I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn
And I saw him and through his disguise
I wish you a hopeful Christmas
I wish you a brave new year
All anguish, pain and sadness
Leave your heart and let your road be clear”

I think I just zone in on songs in any bits that mean something to me.

I should add ‘Keep Breathing’ Ingrid Michaelson

@ForeverAintEnough interesting that you mentioned Ingrid Michaelson - I just heard "Winter Song" by her and it really got to me (post transfer yesterday!)

This is my winter song
December never felt so long
Because you're not where you belong
Inside my arms

Cue the waterworks! Hopefully a sign hormones are doing what they need to do haha!

'Four letter word' by Jessie J is about her infertility diagnosis. I have to admit, I haven't actually listened to the song but have read her interviews etc about her diagnosis and the song.

Argh That JesseJ one hits home. I do not recommend listening if you’re in a fragile state Sad

Good luck with your transfer @mayihavesomecakeplease
