High number of immature eggs

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone else had a high number of immature eggs?

Bit of background - doing our first round and had egg collection yesterday. They got 11 eggs which we were happy with. But later in the afternoon got a call to say only 3 were mature - the clinic said this was an usually high number of immature eggs.
Of the 3 only 1 has fertilised and while i know there is still a chance it could last, i really feel that come day 3 or 5 there will be nothing to transfer. While i had told myself over and over again it would take 2 or 3 attempts to work, i hadnt prepared myself for having nothing to transfer back (as i said, i know there is still a chance as 1 has fertilised but the odds just dont feel so good and im feeling so gutted about it).

We have paid upfront for 2 full fresh cycles so Just wondering if anyone a had a high percentage of immature eggs and of so what did their clinic change for round 2 and did it help?

Thanks

My problem wasn't so much immature eggs but really bad egg quality and fertilisation less than 30% with ICSI - it took several tweaks of protocol to get it right for us

I would ask your clinic for the size of your follicles when they triggered you? Also did you do a single or double trigger as have heard that double triggers can help with maturity

Hi. Thanks for your repsonse. We are also using icsi and i know it only takes 1 egg, but still would feel more hope if we had more than 1 fertilised.

I will ask the clinic to confirm follicle size. On my last scan at least 5 were above the size they would expect mature eggs and there was a 4 or 5 just below (scan was the day before the trigger shot).

I took a single trigger shot, but had also read that double would be better. Will def bring this up if we have to go for a second round.
Clinic is to call again on sat (day 3) to update us on the 1 fertilised egg. Fingers crossed it makes it.

Thanks again for your response

Hi, I didn't have the same issue as you - I had eight mature eggs out of nine collected in my first round - but only four fertilised and then only one made it to day 5/6, which wasn't suitable for transfer.

I'd echo a PP that a double trigger shot should help, and clinic should be able to suggest tweaks to further rounds if they are needed. Frustratingly, so much about ivf is just luck, with outcomes varying cycle to cycle. I'm really sorry you didn't get the outcome you wanted in round one though - it can feel really deflating.

Hi @Geep I know this is an old thread but wondered how you got on? I had a lot of immature eggs on my last cycle.
