Recurrent miscarriage and autoimmune disease

Hi there, I am currently waiting for my fourth early miscarriage to happen - it's the first from a natural conception, the other three were following IVF treatment. I've also had three other rounds of IVF which were unsuccessful. DH and I don't have any other children.

We've discovered that I am positive for antinuclear antibodies, so I have an undefined autoimmune issue (my only possible symptom is hypermobile/'double-jointed' elbows). I have raised natural killer cells and a slightly underactive thyroid, although that doesn't seem to be caused by Hashimoto's. I will be taking hydroxychloroquine and IVIg with my next embryo transfer, as well as methylfolate and clexane to deal with an MTHFR and blood clotting issue.

Is there anyone out there who has had a successful pregnancy with autoimmune issues, and can share their story to give me hope? Things feel almost unbearable at the moment, and I'm starting to wonder if we will ever have children.

Thank you so much x

I can’t give you a happy ending yet but I’ve also recently tested positive for aggressive natural killer cells following multiple miscarriages. I’m on hydroxy and will be on intralipids if I get pregnant again. I’m thankful that at least now I have a diagnosis - the not knowing why is the worst.

There is a thread under the miscarriage / pregnancy loss section on immune issues and killer cells etc which might be a help x

Have you been tested for this? Antiphospholipid syndrome.

It's autoimmune and well worthwhile reading up on it because recurrent miscarriage is a symptom.

I don't have your particular problem but it sounds very similar to the lady on this Instagram I follow, she might have some useful advice:) her Instagram handle is @findingfertility

I’m so sorry I’ve only just seen your replies to my messages.

@Dbrook I’m so sorry you’re struggling too. Thanks for pointing me to the other thread. I’ve been taking hydroxy and had the IVIg drip with my last transfer, but I fear that I might be about to experience another CP - I’ve had faint lines for a week.

@BoulangerieBabs thank you for the suggestion - I haven’t been tested for APS, but I take clexane, which I believe is the treatment, for a clotting disorder, so I think that would be ticking that box.

@Theresa88 I follow her too! I must go and have a proper look at her advice. Thanks so much for flagging.

I hope you are all ok, thank you again x
