Norethisteron - does it stop conception ttc naturally just before ivf about to start

Hi all - wondering if you can help. I am due to start my IVF cycle in a few weeks and have been told to start Norethisterone this weekend. We wanted to have one last 'go' trying naturally before the ivf injections. I think I'm ovulating now (can feel slight pains) but I'm worried that starting the Norethisterone this weekend will stop conception from our ttc efforts and we will lose the opportunity. I'm just wondering if I should start the tablets after ovulation. The IVF clinic is shut so can't get any answers. I'd appreciate your views.

My understanding is that Norethisterone brings on your period. Clinics use it so they can control your cycle and plan your treatment. So I would think that taking it would put an end to TTC this month.

I know what you mean about wanting one last go but I would follow the clinic’s advice. They are the experts.

I was told not to when I took it, in fact it might even say it on the leaflet in the box?

Hi it’s not a contraceptive so you can still get pregnant but I think there is a risk of birth defects and the leaflet that comes in the pack says to not take it when pregnant so you should probably avoid trying whilst taking it.

I've been told no I protected sex the month of taking norethisterone. It's really crap to lose a month of trying naturally. This cycle I told my clinic I really didn't want to take it and they've let me wait for my period to arrive naturally. I think it's mainly for scheduling that they like us to take it. One doctor did tell me it helps to give a good clear out Hmm but I don't know if that's actually true!

Personally I did everything the clinic asked me to do because they know what they're doing
