2nd FET from 1st egg collection

Hi all - I need some reassurance!

In July I had my first IVF cycle and unfortunately a BFN - I was ok with that because I didn't expect success on the first attempt and we were lucky enough to have two frozen embryos.

At the end if Sept I had my first FET - I got a BFP but unfortunately miscarried early on.

In January I'm having the second frozen embryo put back and in my head I've already written this cycle off and mentally planning my next fresh cycle. Surely the clinic would have put the best embryo back last time so this one stands no chance? Surely if one of the embryos from an egg collection doesn't make it then none will??

Any success stories of a BFP from a FET when the first of the same 'batch' wasn't successful?

TIA x

If it didn’t have a chance they wouldn’t have frozen it! There is no rhyme or reason. Wishing you the very best of luck x

@LJM83 I wouldn't worry about embryo grades, if it's good enough to freeze then itsfood enough to work. Have they tested your thyroid and done any blood clotting tests? I'd ask to get those checked ahead of a third transfer

Dot457 · 06/11/2020 15:04

I've not had a BFP as of yet. I'm about to have my 3rd transfer next week. First was a fresh from an NHS clinic, 2nd was a frozen from the same batch as the one I'm getting transferred next week. Both from this batch were graded the same (Think it was a 4CC or something!) so even though my first frozen one from this batch didn't take, I still believe there's a chance this one can work, you just never know!

I have read so many stories on here about embryos that may not have been as strong as others and have turned into happy healthy babies!

I know it's really hard to keep an open mind in this situation though so I completely understand xx

Aprilbaby21 · 06/11/2020 22:27

It doesnt work like that luckily.

They only grade generally for freezing purposes

I've had lots of cycles.. but here are some that were graded

Ive had Fresh 3BB transferred, ended up being my 5 yr old DS..

Then i had a hatching 5AA blast transferred which ended in a chemical

Recently had a 5AB Frozen transferred and im now 18 weeks pregnant.

Its not just about the embryo as to why you get pregnant and why you dont.
There are lots of factors, embryo being 1, lining, hormone levels...
But after 8 cycles of treatment, ive come to my personal conclusion, its all down to pot luck!

Good luck x

My friend pregnant on her third attempt from 1 cycle. They transferred 2 embryos so it was either number 3 or 4 out of 6. He's 2 now

Thank you all so much for your comments - these forums are a god send! I think deep down you know that some of your thoughts are irrational but you need someone, who understands, to tell you that.

@TTCIVF - I have had my thyroid tested when I started this process (middle of this year) but nothing about blood clotting - I will look into that. Thank you x

@LJM83 as a result of my blood tests I've got to take aspirin from transfer day for my next FET. They're also giving me low dose prednisolone (a steroid) to lower my immune system - I don't have any obvious immune conditions but just to cover all bases!

LJM83 · 07/11/2020 08:36

@TTCIVF ah ok, thanks. Were you advised to have those tests or did you instigate it? The thyroid one was requested by my clinic but no other tests have been suggested - perhaps that will happen at my next appointment.

Are you taking any supplements? x

TTCIVF · 07/11/2020 08:48

@LJM83 I was advised to have the tests after my first two transfers ended in chemical pregnancies. I had full blood count, thyriod, mini thrombophilia screen and lupus anticoagulant. I am a private patient and those bloods came to around £200 if I remember correctly.

I've taken many supplements in the past and to be honest none have made any difference to my cycles so I'm now following clinic advice and only taking folic acid and vitamin D, however I have switched to the oral spray versions to help with absorption

LJM83 · 07/11/2020 08:54

Thanks @TTCIVF - I will enquire about the tests at my next appointment, I'm a private patient too.

Yes, I've read so much about supplements etc. and am currently reading 'it starts with an egg' - there are a lot of suggestions in there but my clinic only suggest vitamin D and folic too, so I will prob stick with that for this trf.

When is your trf? x

@LJM83 I'll be starting as soon as AF shows up Smile medicated transfer as I don't trust my body to do a natural FET!

LJM83 · 07/11/2020 11:43

@TTCIVF same here, I think another 2-3 weeks for me. IVF involves a lot of waiting around!

I used four embryos before I got pregnant with my LO (two double transfers). Have since had a SET which was a BFN trying for no 2. Then another double transfer of the ‘lowest grade’ embryos and am 10 weeks with twins! This is all from the same egg collection. So just goes to show that the embryo grading means v little! You e got a good chance with the rest of your frosties- good luck! X

LJM83 · 08/11/2020 16:17

Thank you @Lemongrass1 - I will try and be more positive!

Wow - massive congratulations! x

Hi ladies

I'm reading all this again with renewed interest. I had another failed FET at the weekend.

We got 6 embryos in 2017.

5AA fresh transfer failed
4AA frozen my almost 2.5 year old daughter
5AB failed in February. Since then I've had surgery to remove polyps
5AB failed this weekend.

So I have a 5BB and a 5BC left

My oh said that the recent attempt was the last one.

All I can think about is my 2 embryos. There is a possibility the next one would work. I'm building up the courage to approach it with him.

@TTCIVF are you in the UK? My clinic isn't prescribing prednisolone at the moment because of hfea guidance with covid.

TTCIVF · 17/11/2020 07:34

@Ging78 I am sorry to hear about your failed transfer. I am in the UK and I've had prednisolone prescribed and sent to me within the last few weeks. The position earlier in the year was that you couldn't have it but they said that has now changed

Ging78 · 17/11/2020 20:01

@TTCIVF that's interesting. You're lucky. I tested high for killer blood cells and was on prednisolone when I conceived my daughter. In this round I was given clexane instead. The hfea still seem to be saying that they don't advise them.

Good luck with your cycle. Fingers crossed!

LJM83 · 17/11/2020 20:08

@Ging78 I'm sorry to read your message 😞 why I had your OH said your most recent attempt was the last? I would have thought it would make sense to carry on until you've exhausted your frozen embryos (obviously that's my personal opinion and I don't know anything about your scenario).

My clinic seem to grade differently to others, I have one frozen grade C left which I will have put back in Feb with a non-medicated FET. My specialist said, even though it is a low grade it still stands a good chance, your grades look pretty good x

@LJM83 thanks. My oh wasn't convinced we could cope with another. He's 46 now with a busy job and we have no family or support. I think the same as you and all I can think about is the next embryo.

February for you. Fingers crossed. It's could be your lucky embryo. I really hope so

I guess I am now looking for the same reassurance as you, or similar. Out of our 6 embryos we got out little girl. I keep seeing the low success figures and wonder if that's all we're getting out of this batch. Would I be prolonging the agony to keep going.

I'm seeing my consultant Wednesday and would need the plead with my oh
