Help please! Gonal F injection problem

Hi everyone

I tried to do my first gonal f injection tonight. I followed all the instructions on the leaflet and it went fine up until I took the needle out of my skin and let go of the plunger. At this point a whole load of liquid flew out of the needle 😕. I feel like there was so much that it was my whole dose and not just a drop or something. Has anyone had this happen or know what went wrong?

I’ve emailed the clinic but they wont respond until tomorrow.

Thank you xx

Hi - did the dial dose move when you injected? Ie it went to 0?

Hey yes it went to 0 when I took it out of my body right before I let go of the plunger button. Then let the plunger go and loads of liquid flew out of the needle all over the sofa!

Thank you for replying, feeling quite freaked out!

I hope it’s not a faulty pen! I usually let go of the plunger when the dial goes to zero, wait 5 seconds then remove the pen. Hope it’s better tomorrow, keep an eye on the dose that’s left it will usually addd up and good news there’s usually extra medicine in the pens for safety and removal of air bubbles.

Thank you so much for your help, I think you might be right, maybe it’s the pen. I hope it goes better tomorrow. I wasn’t nervous about injections before really and now I’m a mess 🙄. Ah well will see what the clinic says...can’t do much else tonight.

Gonal-F is a bit tricky and the dosing never lines up with how much is left. I was taught to release the plunger whilst it’s still in your skin rather than after taking it out, which might help?

Even if you haven’t given a full injection: don’t worry. It’s easy to catch up up on doses at the very start of your cycle and the nurses will have advice for you tomorrow.

Thank you @jcurve I did my second one today and it worked fine so could have been something to do with it being a new pen maybe. Not sure but that’s a relief.
