Is there anyone waiting for iui? See so many posts about ivf, but hardly any for iui?

@Ofpalestsilver
I'm so sorry your wedding got cancelled. It really has been a difficult year! I'm glad you're moving forward with your treatment, something to look forward too. If you can try and take the whole day off work for the actual IUI. I think I was more emotionally exhausted than I realised. My DH stayed with me the whole time as he had to do his part at 1pm and the actual IUI was at 3pm. Although I'm not sure what is allowed in these covid times. I had lots of cramping and let ache afterwards so I was glad to be able to relax. My DH and I are both teachers so we were lucky enough to be on half term together when we had our IUI. I will be thinking of you x

I had my IUI just over 19 years ago. We were going to give it three goes before embarking on IVF. Didn't really think it would work but the resulting twins have gone off to uni this year. I was 33 and had unexplained IF. Good luck to all of you. Infertility is a cruel bitch and I think it made me mildly depressed for quite a while.

Well, that's a positive story. Thanks @SuperMoonIsKeepingMeUpToo

That's what I need to hear today! :)

Hello! We're finally going to do our first IUI this weekend, annoyingly I totally forgot to ask my consultant about abstinence before hand. Does anyone know what they advise? I was assuming keep DTD up until the day before but not the day of? Would love some advice thank you x

I'm starting iui cycle 2 this month too. Just waiting for af.

My clinic advise regulated protected sex, but abstain for 3 days before iui @Dbop100

I’m currently in my 2ww post IUI. I’m keeping my hopes tempered and perhaps I will be pleasantly surprised!

Hi @ofpalestsilver

I'm just waiting for my AF to start first round of Iui. I feel nervous/ excited the same time.

How did you find the whole experience, injections etc?

Ofpalestsilver · 25/11/2020 11:12

@Chicasimona - how exciting!

There were times when it was difficult, I can't lie. I was so anxious about whether or not it would work. Or if it worked, would too any follicles grow? Would they need to cancel it? I also had to have loads of scans because the medication was a bit trial and error in the first round. It was stressful at times, that uncertainty.

The injections themselves were fine. I thought they might be super painful but they aren't. The first time it feels weird but the needles are so thin and sharp they go in easily. I did feel a bit of sadness that I had to do this at all but I used my injection time as a bit of me time to lie down afterwards and just relax for 30 mins. You don't need to do that but that worked for me.

When I finally got the A-OK to go ahead, it was a relief. The IUI is super simple. It is like a smear test (I didn't believe them as I'd done a HyCoSy which I'd hated!) and it's so quick. I'm now in the 2ww. I'm chilled cos there's nothing else I can do.

All I can say is: ask questions at your clinic. Nothing is too stupid. They do this everyday. You don't. So get the information you need. Take time to relax and treat yourself. And good luck!

Hi @ofpalestsilver

Thank you for your reply. I hope your two weeks fly by and you get a Bfp. How soon can you test after Iui? Is it the standard 2 weeks?

Did you produce more than 1 follicle? When I was on Letrozole I only managed to get 1 each month. Im hoping with the injections I can get more to increase my chances but let's see.

Best of luck to you 🤞
