Fertility treatment - where to start??

Hi All,

I'd really appreciate if I could get some help! My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for a year with no luck. We've gone to our GPs who have sent us for blood tests, scans and semen analysis. So far I'm looking in good shape but my husbands semen analysis results were terrible - low sperm count and immobile. His GP wasn't too helpful and just said "Ivf would be the only option". I'm distraught but not surprised.

I suppose I'm just looking for advice on where to start? Do I just pick a fertility clinic and book a consultation or should I book appointments with a few to see what they all say?? All the clinics in my area charge for these consultations so I dont want to be wasting money if we have to pay thousands out for ivf in the coming months! My GP said she will write a letter to whatever fertility clinic I pick but I'm just finding it all so overwhelming.

We're going to go private as my GP said the waiting list for public treatment is around a year so money is definately a concern!

Hi
Depending where you are do some research then you could ring a clinic. They will most likely want to run their own tests if you go private you will have to pay for these. Most clinics have a website to look at.

I would also say not to go too far away as remember if you have ivf you will Be up and down to clinic loads.

Yes there is a wait on the NHS and some NHS trusts wouldn’t take you on after a year.

There are things that can be done.

It is overwhelming.

I would pick one close. Most private facilities will start you from scratch and make you pay for tests. It is possible to do half and half . For example pay for some treatments private but go on waiting list for NHS too
