Ultrasound scan for fertility

Hi all, I'm 44 and today I went for an ultrasound at a fertility clinic. They picked up just two follicles on my left ovary and they couldn't see any on my right ovary. Although he said that could be for other reasons, possibly as I am due for my period in the next couple of days. Does anyone have any experience of anything like this? Thank you x

Unfortunately that sounds about right for your age - are you thinking about doing IVF?

Carmen1975 · 20/10/2020 19:19

Yes they did say it wasn't unusual for someone of my age. I spoke to my GP afterwards and she did say that follicles on the right ovary may not be visible due to time of the month approach. My left ovary was also further back and he struggled to find it. I am having a consultation tomorrow where I think we'll discuss IVF. I had hoped inauterine insemination may be enough, but now i think it will most likely need to be IVF.

Are you in the process of IVF?

I'm pregnant after 5 rounds of IVF

All I would say is be very realistic when it comes to success rates. After age 43 success rates are only around 2% which is about the same as trying naturally

Congratulations! Yes I mean someone I know is pregnant naturally at 43, it makes you wonder, but everyone's circumstances are different and there's so many factors. Wishing you all the best x
