Day 3 update

Yesterday I got my day 3 update from the clinic. I had 15 collected, 9 fertilised and yesterday they said 6 are left but only 1 is developing normally. The other 5 are average and may or may not catch up. I’m really worried as I know there tends to be a 40-50% drop off to day 5 but am I right in thinking the good quality one has more chance of getting to day 5? Worried that if this drops off, I may have no suitable embryos left.

@Mctm123 did they give you any detail on cell number and fragmentation? 6-10 cells is what they are looking for on day 3, with 8 cells being ideal as far as I understand

I think she said a couple are at 4 an some at 6 but they are not symmetrical. Tbh it’s all a bit overwhelming and hard to take in! A side of me wants to phone them today to clarify but then I think, I’m there tomorrow anyway hopefully for the transfer. She just said anything could happen at this point

I know, it is a lot to take in and the waiting is so hard - fingers crossed for you

My clinic graded embryos on day 3 from 1-4 - 1 being the best quality and 8 cells developing normally with no fragmentation and 4 being the worst - fewer cells ie 5 or less or more than 12, loads of fragmentation and abnormal and slow development. If I'm being honest I only got day 5 blastocysts from grade 1 embryos on day 3 and then maybe 50% of the grade 2s.

Anything graded lower didn't make it to day 5.

But if you have a good one on day 3 it has a good chance of making it to transfer assuming you don't have male factor x

@Mctm123 wow that is amazing! Did you transfer any?

Mctm123 · 13/10/2020 15:38

Thanks @Weswoo yes transferred a 4AA and 2 have been frozen (5AB & 4BC) The other 4 are still developing so haven’t been graded yet but if they are good quality like the others they will be frozen. Can’t believe the difference from day 3! X
