Hello Ladies,

I am badly constipated since egg retrieval. Have been taking Lactulose but its not making things regular. Today is day 4 post EC and i have hardly had a clear bowel movement ( maybe just 1-2 .. sorry TMI).. pls advise what i can do to fix this before possible transfer tomorrow ? I am afraid that constipation might affect transfer ! Drinking hot water and taking loads of fibre is also not helping 😣

I had the same. Although I did PGS so didn't have a transfer to be concerned about. I find lots of fresh mint tea really helps. Just buy fresh mint and drink about three/four cups in a row. Maybe also speak to the nurses at your clinic. I think it's a common problem but I've never heard that it can effect a transfer's success. Try not to worry.

I would call your clinic for advice. I was admitted to hospital after my last egg collection because I had such immense pain. I couldn't sit or lay down and at a certain point I felt I couldn't breathe anymore. They weren't sure what it was but they kept me in because I couldn't empty my bladder. They next day I had the worst constipation in the world and looked 5 months pregnant. My fertility consultant said it is because they give you antibiotic during EC which really slow down your digestive system and then painkillers such as codeine (and I was given morphine in the hospital) make things even worse. Then progesterone adds to everything to make everything a little worse. I was so worried that ET would be cancelled but the consultant really didn't think it was a big deal- at all. I was given lactulose which helped but the main thing was relaxing. Be careful not to take laxatives that aren't pregnancy friendly (I think they warn against senekot) Apparently this constipation is common but no-one talks about it. Good luck! Take care xxx

One more thing that helps me in general is yogurt with lots of seeds (chia, sesame, sunflower, pumpkin and flaxseeds) with blueberry or other fruit. And also dried apricots xxx
